DR. CONVERSE IS THE BEST! Super interesting lectures. Always looked forward to her class.
Hands down the best writing professor you can ask for. She is always willing to help and discuss about different topics and she really tries to design the class to be interactive. She is not an easy A but rather a doable A if you go to her OH and show up to class!
One of the best professors on campus. First time in a writing class that I actually learned how to be a better writer. She is also funny and caring. I suggest all those who need a writing requirement to take it with her.

Dr. Converse is the type that will increase your grade if you just go to office hours and show her you are trying. She is a very intelligent and funny person.
I don't think I've ever had a professor like Converse, and I don't think I ever will again. Definitely amazing, caring, and a wonderful person all around. Going to class was always fun, and I've learned so much from being in this class. Definitely take this class, you won't regret it!
Really great teacher, funny dry sense of humor. She makes you learn but you'll become a much better writer.
Cren was quite possibly the best teacher I have ever had. She organizes class in a way that is logical and helpful to the learning process. She cares about her students and asks for feedback and generally is just curious to learn more about her students. The class is pretty easy-consisting of 3 essays. Caren is effortlessly hilarious as well.
Although she may be a bit biased at times (does so in a humorous way), she was a great professor! Definitely would recommend!!!
Went to office hours for every paper and she clearly stated what I needed to add to my paper for an A in the class. She will make time to help you succeed in the class. She is respectful of all student opinions, unlike many professors/TAs who become volatile towards any disagreement with liberal ideologies.
One of the best professors I have had in my 4 years at UCSB. The class was fun, the students loved her, the work wasn't too hard, and overall it was a fantastic learning experience. Highly recommend her to both those who want to learn and those who want an easy A.
She's super helpful and personable. Hilarious and just a fun class to take. We wrote all about criminal activity, and she was always very helpful with papers and made the class engaging.
She's pretty cool, funny, lenient. Attendance is mandatory but I was late often and she was cool about it. There are only a few papers that make up your grade and she graded pretty easily.
Absolutely incredible! I loved going to class -- I already miss it. I HIGHLY recommend taking one of her courses, if you get the chance. AMAZING She's hilarious and the contentmaterial was very interesting. You will not be bored.
Converse is awesome. I hate writing, but she makes it bearable, and she is very witty and her assignments are very manageable compared to other 109SS classes. She's very funny too, and a somewhat easy grader.
Caren is awesome!I took her writing 1 class in the spring and it was pretty easy. I really enjoyed going to her class because she made it interesting and even the essays were fun to write! Take one of her writing classes if you can!
Very understanding and easy professor.
Did not like writing entering the class, but Professor Converse made writing fun. She wants her students to succeed, to have fun, and to learn at the same time. She succeeded in her attempt in doing so, by giving a fair amount of assignments, student activities, and lenient grades. Excellent teacher.
I absolutely loved Caren and her class! She is such a down to earth professor. I loved her little anecdote digressions, too. You should definitely take 109 ED with her if you plan to be a teacher. She knows what she's talking about. Awesome class!
she's super helpful and you can tell she loves teaching. pretty easy class if you do the work. got an A- with minimal effort but i learned a lot. really sweet lady who cares about her students

My favorite professor here at UCSB, she is so down to earth and willing to make you do the best you can if you put back the effort. I just go into OH to chat with her sometimes i'm not even in her class anymore!
