Even if I think he doesnt not do very well in leture, his ppt is clear. You should make notes on ppt which is helpful to study after leture. Pay attention on section. Before you take exam, make sure you do whole old test and understand questions on PPT. Then, you will find that the exam is really easy. Spend time and u will get A
It is quite hard to understand him at times so landing a good TA is essential. The material is not too complicated and Hsu makes the class much easier than other PSTAT professors. He doesn't make the class harder than it needs to be and he doesn't assign that much hw either.
If you have Hsu as a teacher be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching. He is also very hard to understand with his accent. Nice and funny guy but not suitable for big lecture halls especially for PSTAT 109.
Really awesome teacher. He honestly wants everyone to do well. 2 homework problems every week/every other week; super easy to complete. Only complaint: he doesn't post lecture notes. But, you can find 122 notes online. It's a UD Stats class so you've got to put in the work but he makes the class fairly easy.
If you just want to get a good grade, then take Hsu. He was very nice and only assigned 8-9 homeworks each with 1 or 2 problems, no test, no project. He just copied down the theories from the text and said nothing about R(or any practical stuff).
He's a great professor. TBH if your taking stats classes at UCSB, take it with faculty professor cause they're much more experience and organized to teach the subject versus visiting professor. Hsu is great and do good on his homework and you'll do good for his exam.
He does not show enthusiasm to the materials and the lectures. Basically just copy from the textbook. Boring lectures. Don't know anything else besides the textbook.

super nice, understanding guy. do the sample midterm and final and write them on the paper that he allows you to use as a cheat sheet and you will pass the class bc of the formulas
Great professor ! Midterm is way to easy and the way he teaches is great. Very straightforward, but i would recommend going to CLAS for review.

Loved this professor!! Gives off a great happy vibe. Exams are fair and he's very willing to answer any questions. Really helpful in his office hours!

Great guy. Very approachable and is ALWAYS willing to help. He allows a front and back cheat sheet on tests. 20 Percent of the class gets A's. He has a very thick accent which is difficult to understand, I suggest going to CLAS.
Overall pretty good class and professor. He makes learning stats fun! Tests are reasonable if you really understand the material and do the reccommended problems. Overall well-taught class.
sometimes you cant really understand him but from experience, just ask him to explain again. it really helps. the class overall is somewhat easy. if you dont understand something, prof hsu will help--no questions asked.
Even though he does have an accent, he explains really well and takes the time to illustrate all the formulas. He takes time to review previous lectures in each class. His tests are just like his class examples. No homework. Really 5 unit class and pretty straight foward.
Great professor. Learned a lot, I would recommend this class to anyone! Professor Hsu is very approachable, and always willing to help out.
