The workload in Prof Hsu's class is extremely light. He assigned 4 homeworks all quarter and each homework was 2 questions maximum. His tests are hard but he has a very generous curve and makes it very clear he will curve. Lectures are were pretty dull and I barely paid attention, sections gave you all the info you needed.
I'll admit his class is tough, but I've enjoyed every interaction I've had with professor Hsu. He is accomodating in class, willing to slow down when students ask. He always responds to my emails within the hour! I appreciate how approachable he is and doesn't just leave us to self-learn the material. Definitely take him if you can :).
Professor Hsu makes everything clear and simple, putting in some effort then you will be fine. Little homework.
Does have a heavy accent and can be disorganized at times. Everything comes down to the long lectures, he doesn't post anything online. Just have to show up consistently and pay close attention. Midterm was reasonable, we'll see abt the final.
Lectures focus on proof while homework is all about R. Exams are based on lectures which means there's no practice before exam (learn the concepts, then try to solve the problems for the first time during an exam!). If you enjoy uncertainty then take his class.
Worst professor I've had. No clue how to structure, organize or teach a class.Averages for both midterms in 50s not cause material was hard.He provided no guidance on topics to cover and gave extremely little time.Questions had curveballs. Most skipped lecture,TA and textbook more helpful.Only good reviews are cause generous curve and light workload
