The workload in Prof Hsu's class is extremely light. He assigned 4 homeworks all quarter and each homework was 2 questions maximum. His tests are hard but he has a very generous curve and makes it very clear he will curve. Lectures are were pretty dull and I barely paid attention, sections gave you all the info you needed.

I'll admit his class is tough, but I've enjoyed every interaction I've had with professor Hsu. He is accomodating in class, willing to slow down when students ask. He always responds to my emails within the hour! I appreciate how approachable he is and doesn't just leave us to self-learn the material. Definitely take him if you can :).

Professor Hsu makes everything clear and simple, putting in some effort then you will be fine. Little homework.

Does have a heavy accent and can be disorganized at times. Everything comes down to the long lectures, he doesn't post anything online. Just have to show up consistently and pay close attention. Midterm was reasonable, we'll see abt the final.

Lectures focus on proof while homework is all about R. Exams are based on lectures which means there's no practice before exam (learn the concepts, then try to solve the problems for the first time during an exam!). If you enjoy uncertainty then take his class.

Worst professor I've had. No clue how to structure, organize or teach a class.Averages for both midterms in 50s not cause material was hard.He provided no guidance on topics to cover and gave extremely little time.Questions had curveballs. Most skipped lecture,TA and textbook more helpful.Only good reviews are cause generous curve and light workload

Had him for 122&126 this quarter. Funny guy, very nice, but lectures/course not great. Felt like he never had a lesson plan, lectures not organized or easy to follow. Once in class he said something like "actually I'll teach something else". Mean midterm&final for 122&126 were 54-59%. Heard he curves overall grade, I studied textbook over the notes

Lectures can be a little convoluted at times and focus on proofs rather than how to solve problems. A quiz every section but is 100% based on homework so it's not very hard. Tests are difficult but curved very aggressively, my 70 average on tests was curved to a B in the class.

I'm actually taking both of his pstat126 & pstat122, he is just terrible. The worst part is he told us to use our notes and hw to study the exam but the hw is not related to the exam especially pstat126. Also, he will not give practice problems for the exam even we keep asking, but he keeps avoid to give us, I might fail both classes which is bad.

lectures have nothing to do with homework, homework has nothing to do with exams (that make up 70% of our grade lol) don't take his class

I heard his 122 class is okay, however his 126 class is absolutely the worst thing ever. The tests that are worth a combined 70% of our grade had nothing to do with the homework, and we were given absolutely no practice problems or examples. I would steer clear of Hsu for 126. There is a class curve, but nobody knows how much it will be.

Terrible professor. No practice exam. No relationship between homework and his lecture. All homework needs to be done in R, while his lecture only focuses on the proof of formula. Homework has nothing to do with the exam. His lecture never gives a detailed example of how to use the formula. Time is not enough to finish the exam.
