Not too bad of a lecturer, but occasionally couldnt answer questions from the reading because he has taught this class for years and doesnt read the book every time. Also the last few classes are just for your own knowledge, nothing included on the final, so theyre basically optional

Never expect to have such a great ethics class. Professor is so patient and nice. Although I got confused about simple questions, Prof always patiently answers in details. He is amazing! I don't care about what grade I get, I just enjoy this class.

Pretty boring but great material and super easy to pass his class. You can try a limited amount, show up to the classes, make notes and get an A- easy. He's also fairly funny when responding to student questions, in a sarcastic kind of way.

This professor is easily one of the most boring professors that I've ever had. However, if you use the skeleton notes online and fit your own notes to that, you will easily succeed, it is a guaranteed B+ just for showing up and taking notes. Incredibly boring, but he is clear and straightforward.

This guy was painfully boring. He was a caring prof, but the reason why it was hard was because it was truly hard to be engaged in the course. That being said, all the test short answer questions were given to you beforehand (24 Qs given, 7 will be on the test). However they were hard & specific. Took a lot of effort to study. NOT worth your time.

2 midterms and 1 final. Give the prompt questions 1 week in advance, No surprise on the test. Try hard, you can get an A. No try, you can easily pass the class with a C.

While dry at times, McMahon is an overall amazing teacher and I'm looking forward to taking Phil133 with him next fall. Clear, intelligent, and well spoken. Dude knows his stuff. Tests aren't difficult, he gives lecture outlines for each class (use those to supplement notes), go to class, you'll be golden. 1 reader, most readings online

He has to be the most boring professor I've ever listened to in my entire life. I'm not even exaggerating, he is SOO boring. It's painful going to lecture. BUT the material isn't that bad.

Key to passing is going to lecture. He clarifies theories extremely well and talks through the entire lecture. Pay attention and take notes on what he says and you're good. He even posts skeleton notes that you fill out in class. Very fair grader, and provides great feedback on exams. Take a class with him!

I really enjoyed this class! He is a bit dry with his teaching but he is very clear and is able to present the hard philosophical material in a comprehensible way. 2 mid terms and a take home final exam. You get the study guides in advance, which is where the exam questions are directly pulled from. Wish I could have take more classes with him.

Pretty straightforward, gives the questions for the midterms and finals beforehand. Isn't the most exciting phil professor but is really helpful in office hours.

Phil of Social Science is a very good class, but can be difficult. He's very good at explaining things thoroughly and he sends out model answers after all the tests so that you can do better on the final. He also gives you all the questions prior to the test so you can study better. One book bye Searle and one thin reader. Three tests.

McMahon is very intelligent and his lectures are well prepared and clear. Will take the time to answer any questions and is helpful in office hours. Readings can be dull, but make much more sense if you read them after the lecture. Go to class! 2 short answer midterms, 1 longer answer take home final. If you understand the reading, you will do fine

McMahon is dull - he gets the job done, but it's pretty painful. He's not terribly difficult, but he's pretty boring.

I'm only posting this after reading the comment above me because I am currently in the same class. Mcmahon is by no means exciting or anything of the sort, but his lectures are entirely understandable and pretty clear. Most of all, to refute the above comment, he grades quite easily--two in-class midterms studied 2 hrs for each and got two A's.

I really enjoy how he emails his study guide to everyone 3 days before the midterm, over the weekend too. I also really enjoy how he doesn't take the time to make lecture handouts, especially since no one understands this continental philosophy (Foucault, etc). Many many blank stares in class, also grades somewhat hard. Take anyone but him!

He seems very educated in what he's teaching, and a nice guy in general, but it's really more of a history class. There is not much individual thought, so if you don't mind memorizing information this class is good for you, but if you want to interject your own opinions. The final is very'compare and contrast' instead of argument.

A great professor. Lectures were well organized and easy to follow. He answers questions well. Begins each lecture with a review of the previous lecture, something I found extremely useful. Exams are fair and straightforward.

This course was focusing on continental philosophy, which is actually pretty interesting if you do the reading. the midterms and final are completely based on the reading so i wouldnt bother going to lecture, especially since he emails the review guides and take home final.

I've already begun trying to plan taking almost EVERY class with MacMahon, because I've started to notice that the Philosophy department is rather LACKING in talent. MacMahon is an excellent lecturer, clear, organized, fair, answers questions, and is nice! One of the better professors I've had at the university!

Amazing professor. He presents the material very well and gives a very organized presentation of the subjects. If you take notes, you'll have everything you need to study for the midterm(s) and final. Nice guy, too. He's real helpful during office hours, although he doesn't put up with BS.
