TAs were ridiculously into the class. They went a bit overboard serious. Class was okay, 3hours was too long. Section can be cool if you have a good TA.
Easy material to learn. It sucks being 3 hours long, but it is only once a week. There are 2 papers which were really easy to write because they are about yourself or a friend. Quizzes every week. And its like you are in elementary school again because theres snack time and show and tell.
A great class for anyone looking to learn more about their new university environment. I highly recommend this class to all first-years, especially if you come from a rather homogeneous background.
Not the most exciting class in the world. Very elementary course work (i.e. group project, response papers every other week (short)). In class this is VERY boring. Some of the lectures by visiting prof. or group reps. were interesting but she is NOT. She is quite strict on the paper (so if you are an english major dont take this class).
cool, helpful class especially for first-years who need help with knowing campus resources.
Ridiculous course. Quiz every week from the book and online readings. Journal entries about your self every other week. An essay that she grades based off her opinion and not yours. The prompt was to interview a student and write about their experience. She then grades you based on how well you can plug and chugyour thesis.Donotthinkforyourself
Easy 3 units you can take it for a grade or p/np and it covers a writing requirement (2 papers about yourself=easy). TAKE THIS CLASS WITH FRIENDS! it will make the lecture part (which is boring) go by faster. The discussion is totally make it or break it based on your TA. I had fun. We ate snacks and messed around. good way to meet new ppl.
This was an awesome class she is a wonderful professor, not preachy she just is able to talk about what seems to be too uncomfortable of a topic such as diversity She has done her research and is not bias. People who are not open to critical thinking should not take the class because in order to understand this class must, you be a critical thinker
Rediculously easy but not worth the easy A. This class is mind numbing and not at all helpful to incoming students. Brit is preachy, annoying, and a know it all. AVOID THIS CLASS!
pretty much all of these comments are accurate. britt is eh and often overdramatic. there is a bit of too much emphasis on racism and how badly white people suck but overall this is a really easy class. your ta's will either make it or break it for you.
Extremely easy, painfully tedious. Three and a half hours, once weekly. Midterm and final are papers about yourself. Andreatta doesn't actually teach this class, she sits in back and interjects occasionally while guest speakers talk about various aspects of the university. I have learned about two things I didn't already know, never used the book.
the class is fun but does require lots of reading and journals every week. if you do the work its an easy A.
Somewhat interesting. Good way to meet people. Not exactly an easy A. Papers for midterm and final. I think satisfaction depends a lot on who you have for your section.
This was a very poorly run class. You cannot take it pass/no pass and she is a tough grader on inconsequential material. If you are very very lost at UCSB, it may help you, otherwise, don't waste your time and energy. Neither fun nor helpful.
not an easy class and only helpful if you are really lost. Lots of homework, quizes, and a 9 page paper. Not the worst class and by far not the best.
yes i agree this class as good intentions and does touch upon very good topics that you can't learn from other courses, but the assignments are soooo tedious and gets so repetitive. it comes along so much extra activities and work that i believe this class should be worth more than 3 units. i don't think this class is worth taking
an invaluable class for every UC student. Britt is amazing her class presents beneficial challenges to grow as a student and a human.
Although I think the idea of the class is a great idea, the ammount of work needed to complete this class overshadows the good aspects of it (should have been 4 units). I thought the midterm and final essays were ridiculous, and the class was too long (3 hrs) and often repetative (white privilege). I did, however, learn some valuable information about university facilities and resources.
Britt Andreatta is my mentor. She pointed me in the direction of student affairs. If I could be half the person she is I would be well set for life. She clearly shows love for her field and her classes. Her students are her top concern. Her lectures are clear, insightful, and topical. I took her Soc 102 class and that class prompted me to be a co-leader for her INT 20 course. I also took her Ed 173 class and loved that too. She prompted me to complete the leadership certification program as well.
Pointless class. DL/CL were awesome but Brit is just kind of clueless. I think because she had such a dramatic first year of college, she thinks everyone else will too. If you enjoy talking about how much your life sucks and how evil white people are, you'll like the class.

A fun, kick back class to take as a jr/sr. you talk a lot about your views, opinions, etc. listen to others and learn about the university system. Britt's awesome and any class she teaches, you'll learn something new.
I was a DL for this clas. She has her best interest in the students to help them succeed. If u find it boring, talk to ur friends when ur a Sr. who didn't take the class & see how they wish they knew certain things then that you knew b/c of her.
Complete waste of a class. I love my DL/CL but could not stand the lectures. All I learned was that I am a priveleged white person who doesnt deserve what I have because I am suppressing every other race. Has potential to be a good class but Brit won't change the lectures to useful things about the Freshman experience.
