Professor Tutino is funny and helpful but the material is dull, there's a lot of reading, and it's very hard to get an A on the essays, although I think she curved the final grade. She's a good professor but even as a history major I found the class to be hard and boring at times.
She is such a funny and engaging professor! I looked forward to lecture.
Professor Tutino keeps students engaged with her quirky personality, and her passion for the material. She makes herself clear on what she wants you to know, is understanding, and helpful. This class is very reading and writing intensive. I loved her class, and it was interesting, but a lot of preparation and comprehension of material is needed.
Apparently Im the only one on here who hated this class but me and my friend took it and we are both not sure if we are going to pass. I got a D on the midterm and this is my first D of college. All of the tests are essays so that was a factor. Also if you don't love history this is not the class for you. Textbooks super required but open notes
She is great. Keeps the class engaged. Helps students get a better understanding of the period covered by requiring a great deal of primary sources.
subject is interesting. LOTS OF READING ! midterm, final, and paper: all are essays...
One of my favorite professors EVER! Her lectures make the subject interesting and she's hilarious! Definitely the best part of my morning. I wish she was teaching a class next quarter!
EASILY my favorite professor at UCSB. She has so much passion for her subject, and its hard to not get caught up in her enthusiasm, even at 8am. She really cares about her students and wants them to learn. Also, her paper topics are really interesting. Its hard not to love her!
This was my favorite class. Lectures weren't mandatory, but I went anyway because she made it interesting. As long as you keep up with the material, you'll be fine; I got an A in the class. One midterm, one take-home essay, one final. Both the midterm and final were essays.
She is an awesome teacher, but the essays are difficult. I read every single word of assigned reading and got a C. There's a midterm in class essay, take home essay (1800 words) and an in-class final. DON'T take it if you aren't a humanities major, we sciencey people can't handle this stuff!
LOVED THIS CLASS! Took it just because of her good rating and couldn't be happier. makes a seemingly boring topic super intereting. Midterm and final both essays with a paper but at least you don't have to memorize random dates! TAKE IT SHE IS HILARIOUSS
Great teacher! Fun lectures.
An extremely pleasant person and great lectures.
Tutino was funny during lectures. Made seemingly boring information interesting. Outfits and glasses are subject to change drastically throughout the course (which was awesome). Must go to lecture and do the readings for an A. Not a difficult class overall though. Very enjoyable though. HIghly recommend this class.
Such a great teacher! She knows soooo much about the topic and really wants the class to know and LOVE the same. Very interesting topics and the midterm and final are open-note!
She's really hot. Everyone needs at least one hot professor.
She is a wonderful professor, one of my favorites at UCSB. She is passionate and cares about her students. You have to do the readings and you should attend lecture if you want an A (basic ideas are on slides and then she extrapolates). Cute and funny. She makes otherwise boring information fascinating, plus her accent rocks.
Very helpful and available for office hours; very passionate about material. Takes otherwise dry subjects and transforms them into interesting lectures.
Tutino is a hot Italian woman who hilariously who hates nature. Her class was really interesting, a lot of unnecessary reading, she works off of slides and takes time to add little jokes in them. Trendy in clothing as well. Her glasses always match her outfits. Def would take her again.
hot and smart
AMAZING prof! Her lectures are incredibly entertaining, and her whole persona is so much fun to watch =) You have to do the reading to do well, but since the midterm and final are both open notes, open book, it is more than worth it. Take her class!!
She's the cutest little Italian lady you'll ever meet! I remember one time when a student was talking during her lecture and she thought that someone was asking her a question. Someone told her that it was just someone being rude, and she said, "What? Rude? There is no one rude in my class." So adorable! Oh, and she's a wonderful lecturer too!
She is an amazing teacher!!! She likes to make you think, which is what college is all about. She allows open book, open note tests with giving you the prompt before hand, however you must come up with new ideas, not ones mentioned in lecture. She has the greatest clothes, the cutest accent, and I love her glasses!! Talk to her, she is wonderfu
This might be the best history class I have taken at UCSB. She keeps the class really interesting with discussions, even though it meets at 8 am. If you don't do the reading you won't do well. If you do the reading, this class isn't too difficult.
