Took her class last quarter. This class wasn't as interesting, though. She is a genius. Helpful beyond all belief. Be original and do your work or else your screwed. Open book, open note tests. Midterm with no final. 10-12 pg. research paper with 7 weeks to write it. Available almost anytime outside of class.
wayy to much reading...if you lk reading 100-150 pages a week, take her. Lectures are interesting sometimes but i pretty much slept through her lectures. open notes midterm and final, pretty ok. But a lot of reading it's just not worth it anymore.
Professor is very helpful and gives the best lectures. I had to work hard for a B but learned a lot about how to write a argument. To do well you have to have original ideas and not use ideas from lectures.
one of the best prof's i've had yet, she's challenging and a hard grader but very helpful and cares about her students and what she's teaching. very interesting lectures and she's hilarious.. if you're not willing to put in the work you won't get a good grade...gives prompts for final/mid term, and they're open books/notes
TAKE HER!! my favorite prof at ucsb so far! tutino is incredibly smart, funny, and helpful! she is extremely approachable and more than willing to clarify the material. her accent was a little tough the first week or so but its easy to get used to.
BEST professor at UCSB. Not only is Prof. Tutino the most intelligent human alive, she is also the most helpful. She has a sarcastic but realistic humor that shows every class period. Make sure you have a lighter handy, because she loooooves her cigarettes before class. You can ask her anything; paper questions, test questions. She is amazing!

Very funny lady, and cute accent. She made the material really fun to learn, and preps you for the midterm/final very well. I recommend this class if you don't mind writing the 6 essays. It was great!
She is a great lecturer. Very dryly funny, asks for class participation. She actually came to our section a few times to engage in the discussion! Plus she likes soccer and she's Sicilian. Can't go wrong with that combination.
She's clear & tells you what to focus on. Stresses thinking on your own. Very Helpful. Have to work on your own because she doesn't give answers.
Really nice and intelligent. Not a very hard class, but do the readings. Stressed independent thinking and if you show it on papers/exam you will get an A easily.

Prof. Tutino is one of my favorite professors. She forces you to think for yourself and makes ancient texts interesting. She is also very forgiving if you don't do well on the midterm. Go to her office hours, she is fun to chat with.
Tutino was always very prepared with her lectures, she knows what she's talking about. She also makes an effort to get through to students. I was taken aback when she knew my name! She is very helpful, and encourages questions. The reading for this course is quite hefty, but I found it interesting. I feel like my IQ went up 10 pts after this class.
Professor Tutino is by far my favorite professor thus far. She takes a huge interest in her students and maintains an incredible passion for the course subject and texts. I have never had a professor force me to analyze texts and think for myself, rather than regurgitating ten weeks full of lecture material into a blue book. TAKE THIS COURSE!!
She was straight forward, full of information, extremely insightful, and had a passion for the students to understand the material. The class it self consists of a large amount of reading, but the reading directly relate to the material, and are very helpful. Over all great, fun, enjoyable professor.
