Very nice professor, You're grade is based on two assignments that are to prepare for your main assignment of the quarter which is a presentation of about 10-15 minutes about any topic of your choosing about gender and the environment. Somewhat unclear guidelines, but very easy and fun. Must go to class for attendance, but overall a good class.
Overall, terrible. Inconsistent and unclear grading, unhelpful, just plain mean. Comes across in lecture as kind, if lost, but do not bother going to office hours because that facade disappears when she isn't lecturing. Laughs at what she considers dumb questions, huffs, rolls eyes, all to hide the fact that she actually has no clue.
Sweet, technologically challenged professor. Lots of movies. Posts all material on gauchospace so don't buy book. Only reason to go to lecture is to get attendance points since you can easily review from home. Easy class that was also very interesting if you want to learn about how modern sexism has effected the anthropological sciences.
Really sweet and helpful lady, a lot of notes and attendance is mandatory but only 2 tests where questions are given beforehand. Do not need to buy textbook
This is probably one of the most boring classes I have ever taken in college. She is really nice and tries to make the material interesting, but it just doesn't work. There are identifications and essays for the midterm and final but she does give the questions for the essays out in advance.
technolgy and culture was the class, but this was not taught, shes very nice and passionate but the material was irrelevant sometimes, dont know how she grades the final either, overall easy class jsut a bit boring
I'm not sure how Matthea has such a low rating. I had her for Indigenous People and she is seriously the most fun, awesome Anth teacher I've had so far! She's so interesting, very helpful and her class was just downright easy. One flipping paper, no tests. Just do your research. One book, which was a very easy read. Highly recommended!
she is teaching a class called technology and culture but she hardly knows anything about technology, she needs to stick to the subject way too much talk on gender we already have a class on that its called ANTH 125, her lectures are made for jr high kids not college kids but she expects us to know everything for the exams,
Though the class may be interesting, she is absolutely crazy. It's supposed to be a technology (after IR) class but she shows us witch burning movies and doesn't explain the relevance. She was awful. I got a B on the midterm, did all the assignments, got the extra credit, and an A on the final, but she gave me a good for nothing grade. B-. Really?
Good teacher,1 research paper 1 book very interesting class easy A if you try. She's really friendly oh there was two presentations not so bad. Take her she's fun.
Interesting material. 2 easy 1-pg papers make up 20% of grade. Exams are essay format but she basically gives you all the essay topics 2 weeks in advance. Kind of heavy on the reading and a little difficult but still manageable. Extra credit presentation last day of class.
-ONE BOOK - 2 PRESENTATIONS - 1 BIG RESEARCH PAPER - SHE IS VERY NICE - FUN & EASY
She is wonderful! One of the best at UCSB!!!! Easy class just go and pay attention- very fair grader!
She is very straight forward and easy to talk to. Fun and very considerate about her student's needs.Great person and better teacher, totally recommend her.
I took her for my SOC methods class, I thought it would be extremly hard however it was not. She is fabulous, funny and interesting. This class made me rethink what I want to get my MA in. I may just want to do research now. The class is easy just go to clss and do the assignments, if you fail this class you do not belong at UCSB.
She is great, very relaxed easy to talk to you. Class is easy overall, she goes over the readings in class. In class quiz is easy as is the take home final. I would take her again.
She is very straight forward and easy to talk to. You have to go to lecture and if you miss one it is easy to get the slides from her. It was more of a gender class than an environmental class. If you go to office hours she'll tell you everything that is on the test. Easy A, and not too boring.
So easy! Interesting, but lectures were a little scattered. Enjoyed the videos. Cremers was very nice and always engaged the class (discussions, etc). TA was nice and helpful too. Would definitely recommend.
great teacher. everything you need to know is explained in lecture, but she doesn't post slides online, so you have to attend. lisa mcallister was an amazing TA - she wanted us to get the best grades possible and was super super helpful. i'd take any class cremers was teaching
She is great. Plain and simple. Tests are essay with identification (definition) questions. Fair grader and a great teacher. Very interactive with the class. Wonderful.
Prof. Cremers is my favorite teacher at UCSB. I've taken every anth class she has taught the past year and gotten an A in every one. Just use the study guide to prepare for the test and you are gold. Also, her accent isn't that bad, why are others taking an anthropology class if they're going to be prejudice against someone from another country?
Cremers is a very enthusiastic and kind professor. She goes out of her way to accommodate students. She does assign a tremendous amount of reading, but if you attend class she covers everything you need to know.
This class was very clear and easy to follow. I went to almost every class, but this is not necessarily always a must because she posted all of her powerpoints online. Thought it was an interesting class, but there was no way I was going to be able to read all the books she asked of us.
horrible teacher
