Lectures were unclear and felt like tangents. Interesting material, but you have to be super committed and read the textbook if you want to get a passing grade. Tests are detailed and nit-picky. He is not particularly kind or encouraging either.

Reese's attitude was not encouraging and he didn't offer resources for test-prep. If you review slides after class you will be very confused. You have to rely on your notes. This class demands many extra hours of extra reading to do well. I don't shy away from a challenge but this class requires a much bigger time commitment than others.

Don't take this class unless you're willing to dedicate a LOT of time to it. Really interesting topics but lectures are disorganized and full of so much info that you can't tell what you need to pay attention to. Prof is very nice and helpful during OH but rambles on a lot. Graded only by a midterm & final, which are very both very difficult.

If you think this is going to be a walk in the park, run. Run fast, run far. This class is no joke. It's two tests and he tends to ramble about stuff that's not important to the course. There's no curve and this has no business being an undergrad level course.

Do not take this class. That midterm would've been easier to understand if it was in Russian. You're graded on a midterm and a final and it's by far the hardest class I've ever taken at UCSB. He isn't a great professor and has 2 hours worth of material every week, with no clue what's relevant and what's not.

DO NOT TAKE HIM. WASTE OF TIME. He goes on tangents only to say "it's not important" or "we will talk more about it later" and then proceeds to never bring it up again. He is an expert in his field, but his students aren't and he holds them to his absurd and unrealistic standards. If the average midterm grade is a 60%, theres something wrong.

The lectures are extremely hard to follow because the professor goes on tangents and circles about the same topic. So many unnecessary detail that is not helpful to understanding the material. Really don't recommend taking his class unless you are EXTREMELY interested in the material and willing to study a LOT.

Stay as far away from any of his classes as you can. He doesnt seem to understand he should be teaching at an undergrad level. Will go on a 10 min rant only to end it by saying the material isn't relevant to this class. Doesn't understand people struggle in his class bc of his poor teaching and insane standards. Just stay away

Dear God. Do not take this professor unless you WANT to be challenged. This is by no means an easy class and you will have to put in a lot of study time. I studied for weeks before the final and scraped a B. Reese is absolutely no joke and has high expectations for his students. Only take if you have the time to put into studying HARD.

Such a great lecturer. A hard teacher, but covers interesting and rewarding material. If you wish to advance in neuroscience, I highly recommend his classes.

Honestly, he makes such a simple topic so complicated. He will go in circles about things, he won't be specific during his lectures. He'll say stuff like, "Then they do this" and before saying that, he'll be talking about 3 different neurotransmitters. He covers so much information, non-stop in one class that you can't even process it.

Don't take this class, all the information is dense and his slides are virtually useless. Not worth prioritizing this class over other classes.

Professor Reese really expects you to know your stuff. This was one of the hardest classes I've taken, especially in the psych department. He really wants you to learn and know the material inside and out. Only take if you are ready to study (3 midterms + cummulative final)

Excellent professor, but only take if you are willing to work hard and are genuinely interested in the subject matter. Great for pre-meds. Reese has REALLY high expectations and you basically need to understand everything inside and out. Study his lecture slides and the textbook diagrams. Quizzes every two weeks force you to keep up with material.

Never have I taken a more significant and informative neuroscience class than Neuroanatomy, & all thanks goes to Professor Reese. By far, the most intelligent and well-versed Biopsych teacher in the department. The class is tough, but he splits the material into 4 quizzes. However, final is very challenging. Take him if you seek a higher education.

Great professor who is extremely well versed in the material he lectures on. His courses are hard, but very rewarding for those students who attend lecture, discuss the material with him in office hours, and study hard. I recommend him for any genuine biopsychology student seeking a high-caliber education and not simply looking for the easy classes

by far one of the worst professors I've ever had at UCSB. granted, he's an extremely intelligent professor, but his tests are almost impossible and completely unfair. Studying is almost pointless.. I studied my ass off and still did extremely bad in the class. he fails a good amount of people. he talks 200mph and his slides have NO words.

PSY169L . 11 Years Ago

the amount of material he wants you to know is ridiculous. The final is cumulative. There's one lecture a week with lecture slides with no words on them basically as he expects you to record him or figure it all out yourself. He's an old school professor in terms of treatment for students. I would AVOID this class if you can.

I'm in med school now and I can honestly say that I find neuroscience (aka the hardest first year med school class) easy, and i owe it all to this class. It's true that he puts no words on his slides an you MUST bring a recorder to class, but it's really worth it. The lab is really fun and by the time you finish the class Reese will have prepared you to ace most biopsy courses and breeze through a few graduate courses as well. Oh and did I mention that he's a genius?

This class requires your full attention during lectures and/or recording them for later review. i did not open my textbook once, as the material for the exams are entirely covered in lectures. He is a very fair grader: the highest grade in the class counts as 100% and everyone else gets grades according to that. Thats how I was able to pull an A

Lectures are boring and it is important to not only attend all of them but also to record and listen to them several times. Requires a lot of work and time; doesn't really use material from textbook.

Attend class. Do NOT miss a lecture. Record the lectures. Listen to the recordings. Look at the pictures in the book only if you come across them in lectures. Make sure you understand what they mean so read the descriptions. DON'T Buy the book if you want to save money. U need to know only what he says in class when you go through the book.

This class is very hard, you should record every lecture and go to office hours. That being said I LOVED the class. Reese is so nice and he really helps students who put forth a lot of effort. I would recommend any class with him.

WOOOOOOOOW.. im a biopsy major and this class was SOOOOOO HELPFUL. Its true that it is NOT an easy class.. Reese only shows pictures as slides with NO TYPED EXPLANATIONS BY THEM, it is IMPERATIVE THAT YOU RECORD THE LECTURE. 3 midterms and a CUMULATIVE final worth 50%.. ALL SHORT ANSWER.. after this class be ready to ACE ANY OTHER BIOPSY COURSE!!
