Easy class; helpful, bright, ENTHUSIASTIC! 1 midterm, 1 easy paper, 1 final
Easy class, but professor makes interesting class boring, she goes on with stupid analogies that do not really explain anything and doesnt go in depth with anything, so you come out of the class without really having learned anything.
AMAZING professor. She's definitely one of the best out there, and really understands the stuff she's teaching. She also makes lectures very interesting by adding her own twist on a lot of the material and makes it easier to understand. Very entertaining and helpful as well. Take good notes, and attend lectures / sections and you will succeed!
She can make an interesting subject dull. Reyes spends way too much time on examples instead of the course material and is obsessed with her own personal anecdotes. I dreaded going to lectures because they were so boring but TA choice is critical. If you can, Francois Zdanowicz is the TA to get - he is brilliant!
definitely a fantastic professor. very friendly and interested in anything you have to say, and always willing to help if you have problems.
Amazing, energetic, poised woman. She really knows what she is talking about, and lectures in a way that gets through to students of all levels of interest and understanding. She gets to the point and gives you relatable examples that help the info stick. Definitely worth taking a class with her if you can. She brings game to the table!
Amazing! Simply an amazing professor! Clear and entertaining. Yes we are still talking about political science. I literary chose my major and emphasis based on this single class. Any person in any major would find this professor amazing. She does not lie. Everything she says will be on the exams will. No tricks. Shes awesome!
Prof Reyes is amazing!! You will regret not taking this class and I am not even a poli sci major and hated poli sci till I took her class. Very easy and So Fun! Take good notes and study her study guide! You will do great. got an easy A!
By far my favorite professor at UCSB. She is extremely clear during lecture, very enthusiastic and energetic (especially for a 9am!). The test were very straightforward and fair. She loves what she does and it makes the lectures interesting and worth while. I cannot wait to take more classes taught by her!
Very easy class, lectures are clear and to the point. Don't even buy the textbook- you'll never need it. Posts guides online so it's easy to get the notes from a friend. TA grades your research paper, can influence your grade. Somewhat wish the class was more difficult, it seemed like common sense. However she was entertaining and a helpful prof
WoW WOW WOW I've never had a better professor at UCSB. She is seriously my FAVORITE ever! I got an A in the class just by attending lecture, taking good notes and studying them for the exam. She is SO understanding, SO interesting, and SO helpful! LOVE HER!!!!
Straightforward professor whose lectures are both hilarious and captivating. Her slides that she posts online are just the outline for lecture though, so either you or a friend must go to class. For tests, book material isn't necessary though the online reading material usually is. TAs do have an effect on the grade you get. I recommend this class!
Reyes is the bomb. She is an engaging, whimsical personality and hilarious. Tests are derived 95% from lecture notes and the remainder from readings. I always looked forward to this class, it wasn't too difficult and we learned cases in depth, spending enough time on them to ensure we always retain the knowledge.
She's a fun prof who is always excited about what she's teaching. She doesn't use powerpoints, so notes from her class are jumbled sometimes, but if you ask her to clarify, she will. Tests are non-cumulative and are directly off the review sheets she creates. Go to lecture and pay attention and do the review sheet and you're guaranteed an A.
reyes was one of my favorite teachers at ucsb. took her for ps7 and she made the information very interesting and easy to understand. tests are super easy and come straight from lecture, reading book isnt necessary. GREAT teacher... take her if you can
She's a good teacher with a lot of enthusiasm for what she teaches. She drew all of the questions on the exams straight from the readings, so they are mandatory. It might just have been because it's summer school, but it was a super easy class.
Reyes really brings IR to life! One of the most interesting, passionate teachers in the POLS department. Take one of her classes! She is very clear and makes IR theories relevant and meaningful to her students.
I love her. She makes the material engaging, interesting, and easy to grasp. I believe she is one of the last professors in the poli sci department who cares about her students and who doesn't hate being a professor. I highly recommend her for any class. You won't be disappointed.
I had her for PS 7 and PS 121. Great teacher! She is great at explaining the material and using relevant examples of its applications in the world today. Learned a lot!!
The suject matter was VERY INTERESTING, however the way in which it was taught made it very redundant. She is a very smart, nice, and helpful professor. The paper was optional-extra credit. Tests are pretty much all notes so its important to go to class but dont skip all the reading, its really interesting. Easy A if you're into polisci.
I loved the way Reyes taught the class. She was very clear and made things very easy to understand. The only thing I didn't like about the class was that it was graded only on 1 paper and the final, and we didn't get that paper back until the final, so we had no idea what our grade was going to be. Turned out OK though. Reyes is super nice too.
I do not agree with the other comments about POLS 105. The main topic of the course was Political Violence and it was very interesting. Her lectures are very crucial to go to, but they are organized an enjoyable. I highly reccomend this class to anyone interested in Political Science.
Does a good job of playing devil's advocate. Attendance in class is pretty crucial, as the midterm/final is based entirely on the lectures (not the book). The book wasn't used much, but made a nice supplementary text to the course. I would recommend Reyes for POLS7.
It is hard to keep it clean, given the way she taught, this class but I will try: She has no business teaching this class, is not too informed about the subject, and is lazy (ask the TAs). This class should have been my easiest, but it was my hardest. In short, DO NOT A TAKE CLASS WITH REYES. Maybe, the PS Dept is hiring guest profs of the street.
