Professor Reyes needs to improve the way she structures her class. Taking POLS 105 with her was a nightmare: TAs were in the dark, she was not clear in her answers, and she had readings that were useless. I would agree with some students that say UCSB robbed these of POL S 105 of their $$$$!!! Don't take Reyes!
This class was boring & lectures were disorganized. Just lectures from her notes & her train of thought is confusing. Had a guest lecture from the other prof who teaches the course & learned a lot more in one day than I had in the rest of the class. She didnt even make a reader or midterm & the paper topic was awful. Do NOT take this class w/ her.
I've had Reyes for 121, 124, and 127 and done well in all. Don't do the reading b/c she covers everything you need to know in lecture. She's super helpful and super friendly. Lectures are clear and this lady knows her stuff!
Pretty boring, narrowly-focused class. I went to 5 lectures and got an A-. She examines every topic from either a (big L) Liberal or Realist perspective, nothing else (this is incredibly boring, antiseptic, silly, and unrealistic). Take IPE with Cohen to get the same material and class structure, but taught by a real expert and better teacher.
Lecture based exams, great TA, very straightforward exams if you go to lectures and take good notes (write down everything she says). Readings emphasize what is covered in lecture/discussion.
She is AWESOME!! Take her if ever possible. Just make sure you go to lecture, all her tests are based of lecture. You don't even really need to do the reading, but it always helps.
A real disappointment! Should be teaching elementary school and not at a university. UCSB has robbed me of $$$. She has no experience in teaching and just received her PhD. Horrible exams...short answers and fill in the blank. Count out review lectures. Does not care about your education. TAs aren't that great either.
Not very knowledgeable, has rather generic answers to everything, seems to accomodate the more radical socialists no matter what they say. Plenty nice though, and not very hard. Won't really stimulate critical thinking though, unless you really try with the readings.
She is horrible. Probably one of the worst professors at SB. I could have taught the class better. She should definetly not be a professor.
Reyes sucks as a professor, we as UCSB students just got robbed.Reyes should be teaching at a middle-school not here. Most boring, most un-interesting, one-sided teacher ever. If your a PS junkie avoid this class and petition for a new teacher. The test are multiple choice & fill in the blank.
Very good prof. Extremely nice, entertaining during lecture, and open to all sorts of comments. She is aware of EVERY issue going on and is a great instructor. Tests easy - just memorize lecture notes!
Good Professor overall. Don't bother with the readings because tests are all lecture. Lectures are clear but sometimes boring.
This class was a waste of my money and my life. Reyes consistently messed up words and frequently did not know answers to questions. Not a professional teacher. She seemed really nice, however, and completely approachable. The model UN talks on Rwanda were cool. The final consisted of 75 fill in the blank questions! It was absurd.
She's very knowledgeable of international realtions. There is a lot of reading, but the tests don't require you reaad it all. Just skim. Lectures are important to go to, tests are comprised mainly of this info. But her tests aren't written till just before, so expect anything.
seems to know alot about the subject and can explain material pretty well, but it is alot of reading and theory.
Wow, SHe should not be teaching this class. I had rauchhaus for 7 and he was thirty times as good as her. She frequently couldn't answer questions, canceled all sections (wtf) and gave conflicting, accounts of what should be on her papers and tests. She was pretty nice though
She's clearly a new professor since she seems a bit nervous and unorganized when teaching sometimes. But she is very open to people's comments and ideas and allows for class discussion, which is more to say than most professors at ucsb. Her tests are pretty easy. Just go to lecture and pay attention.
