I feel lucky to take a class from Dr. Koegel. He is an amazing, caring professor and person. He places more importance on his students understanding how to work with children with autism than getting hung up on material in the book. Easy A as long as you study, but easy material to grasp. If you can take this class, I think it is an absolute must.

I am both honored and humbled to get to take a class from this man. Its incredible that he is willing to stay at a public school and not sell out to a private institution. His passion for his work it makes his intro to autism course incredible. This class is about being engaged and learning through listening, not memorizing a book. Great class!

Class was great! The focus is on learning the material rather than going through the motions like other classes. Tests aren't hard but you still need to study and know the concepts. Definitely looks good on transcriptsresumes to take a class on autism taught by a leading researcher in the field.

Material is really interesting. He's a great lecturer. There's a lot of reading (there are 3 books), weekly online quizzes, 1 midterm, & 1 final paper. Tests are ok as long as you do the reading, go to class, & study. I would definitely recommend taking this class!

enjoyed the class and did well(A-) Material is not easy but grading is. Weekly quizzes on gauchospace, midterm, and a research paper worth 1/3 of the grade. Attendance is not mandatory, i only went 3x. read the material and the lectures posted online. found the lectures kind of boring but enjoyed the videos he & the TA's show in class. Recommend.

Great course and great professor. You get to learn about autism, not just the problems, but what to DO about it, from the most eminent researcher in the field. Has been in the autism field since it's infancy and contributed the most to it's advancement over the years! And he has no ego at all- always willing to help and chat with young students!

i hated him during the 1st lecture because it seem that grades made up a students worth. he requires a 3.0 i was let in with a 2.9. he gives interesting lectures with anecdotes of autistic children he has worked with. i found 1st midterm difficult, but i didnt read the 1st book. 2nd book was an easy read and tests became easier. he was very helpful

"he is a complete elitist, he totally believes in intelligence and grades and it is totally strange that someone who works with children with disabilities would take this stance.""Very unhelpful, seemed taken with himself and his reputation" i have to agree with these two posters. this is probably why he requires a 3.0 to be let in.

wow, completely disagree with the last two comments. I wish he'd lecture more but he's one of the leading autism researchers in the world so OF COURSE we want to learn about HIS WORK. YOU SHOULD FEEL HONORED, DUH! we're lucky to be at the university he does research at. I love this field, and his class is great!

Bob is a kind and interesting professor and his lectures are good. This class is totally misrepresented, it's not an intro to autism, but rather an intro to PRT, Bob's intervention method. Good class for what it is, but if you're looking for an overview of autism and intervention methods, you won't find it here unless you want to be fed propaganda.

Terrible person and professor. He has not read a paper on autism for 30 years. Often says blatantly untrue statements. Also, avoid working for his private business called the "Koegel Autism Center." Essentially, him and his wife get you to intern (aka work for free) while they charge $100 an hour for "their" services. This is why I hate tenure.

Very valuable class!! Academically it is very easy, considering that you have to have a 3.0 to even get in, all students should be getting an A. Test questions come directly from lecture and the discussed reading. But more importantly, the info can be applied to your daily lives and intereaction with children with Autism. Highly reccomended.

Great course but BEWARE people telling you it's an easy A class. my TA made the first test VERY hard because of the class' reputation for being an easy A, so i didnt even end up getting an A! BUT the class is EXTREMELY interesting and I highly recommend it to anyone. and the prof is an amazing person and a great teacher.

Took Autism in the Speech & Hearing dept. with Koegel years ago. Very unhelpful, seemed taken with himself and his reputation. Took up valuable time from his office hours meeting with TAs, which should not have been necessary.

Bob (and Lynn) are the most amazing people. I took ED 190, started working at a clinician through the Koegel Autism Center, researching under his supervision, and even auditing a graduate class. He is so bright, willing to help and always informative. If you are thinking of getting into the field or anything remotely related...he is the best!!!

Super interesting topic. Recommend it for anyone interested in Autism! Easy straightforward class with lots of videos. I loved the setup described below! you do need a 3.0 to get in, but if you do TAKE IT!

EASIEST A I have ever gotten in my life. Midterm/Final is multiple choice and also 8% extra credit opportunity. He lectures for the first hour, then there is a grad student guest for the next 30 minutes or so, then a 15 minute break, and a TA discussion that you can leave for after you get the handout. Nonetheless, interesting class and inspiring.

take this class i really reccommend it, Bob offers his office hours anytime and is very helpful when you visit, although sometimes he goes off on tangents and can talk for a long time, but i even found he long talks interesting. he only teaches half the class and a grad student teaches the other half, but it is a wonderful class

I Bob's a great guy. But he is a complete elitist, he totally believes in intelligence and grades and it is totally strange that someone who works with children with disabilities would take this stance. On the other hand his ancedotal stories totally help his class make sense, except when you ask questions he talks about whats on his mind.

One of the best lecturers out there. Doesn't waste words. Everything out of his mouth is useful. He tells great anecdotal stories that very effectively support the content of his lecture. Excellent!
