I enjoyed the reading and the topics discussed regarding sociology, however, the professor was pretty dry in lectures. Also, I went to talk to her, but she wasn't much help with answering my questions.
Such dry lectures, put me to sleep. Took it in the IV theater in the middle of the day, the heat was unbearable. There is no textbook other than a reader with excerpts that was 60 bucks or something and not worth it but you need it because its the only content of the class.
All you need for the class is a reader. You literally don't have to go to lecture, they are kind of pointless. I recommend going to section to get help on the midterm and final. You should be good if you just read the reader, I sometimes didn't read the stories but I would go to section and my T.A. would summarize the reading.
Her lectures are not useful to the midterm or final. Both of those exams rely purely on the reading. Show up to lectures anyways because missing one of the video worksheets can destroy your grade if even one is missed, because they have a disproportionately high value to your final grade and there are no make-ups. Do the reading for an A.
Lectures were sometimes boring depending on the subject you're into. The lecture slides were very basic and straight to the point, but the readings get into more detail! The readings were very interesting and essential to pass the class. On both the midterm and final, you have to identify quotes from readings and films! BUY THE READER.
Easy class that doesn't require much thought. One midterm and the final. Questions are straight from the reading questions she posts up on gauchospace each week. Most readings were interesting and relatively short. Totally doable.
She's not the most exciting lecturer at times, but the information is thought provoking and so are the readings. The readings certainly are long but if you read them you are basically guaranteed an A. It is also nice she only requires a 30 dollar reader and not an overpriced textbook. Visit her during office hours, she's extremely helpful!
If you show up to class and do the readings you should get an A tbh it was a pretty basic and easy class.... Gordon is just a boring lecturer
Gordon oftentimes gives some of the dryest lectures ever. They can be quite boring, and only loosely follow the reading. Reading is mandatory because she doesn't go over them that well, although section helps with that. There is a lot of heavy reading and it doesn't make sense how everything relates to sociology until the very end.
Easy class. Attendance is mandatory on the days where she shows a video in class because you have to do the video responses (a video was shown once a week). Her lectures were very dull and boring and so was the reading. Going to section and lecture was helpful. I didn't read anything after the midterm and still got an A.
Boring lecture! Boring section! Very biased in her ideas, but there was a lot of useful information that she gave us as well. Doesn't use a textbook which is super cool, but you have to get the reader.
Easily one of the best GE courses. Ever. If you're a freshman you might not appreciate Prof Gordon because she assigns a lot of online reading that I found too long, but the reader has interesting stuff. Must go to class for the short film writing assignments, and pay attention because she actually talks about important things.
Attendance is only mandatory on the days when you watch films and answer some questions on a sheet of paper, usually on Tuesdays. Interesting class and subject. Beware of the sleep inducing lectures however. Alot of time will be focused on reading and answering questions, based on the readings. It's optional, but they will appear on the exams.
Suuuper easy class. Going into final with 100% in the class. Must go to like every other class because their are mandatory writing assignments. I think your grade on those can vary based on how strict your ta is. Easy midterm. Section is mandatory and boring because it's basically a recap of what you did in class and the reading.
Seriously the best GE class to take. Professor Gordon has a good way of teaching the class. Hardly went to class expect on Thursdays and got an A- in the class.
Pretty easy class. Have to go to class on Thursdays because there's a worksheet you have to do for 5 points regarding a movie you watch in class. Keep up with the readings (you have to do them) and you should get an A.
This class was great, I highly recommend it!. Gordon is a really good teacher, and though some lectures are dull, the material is easy to understand, and every week she pairs a video with the material so that it is easier to make connections. There are in class exercises once a week with each video but they are really easy points. An easy A class.
gordon is one of those teachers with a cute little personality that you start to notice in the middle of the course. the lectures were boring tho, and the readings sometimes too. but the class is easy and the topics are interesting
Easy A. I stopped doing the readings about half through the course but skimmed them before the final and read the summaries posted every week. The topics are pretty interesting too (if sometimes a bit depressing). Definitely recommend this class.
The lectures are a bit boring yet manditory. 5 analitical briefs on weekly readings.Great grammar is expected and highly graded. Take-home final took about 3-5 days to complete. Long readings but some are quite interesting and challenging.
Super easy class & very interesting topics! Her lectures are a bit boring, but the section, reading questions, and *the key concepts* (posted after each unit) are very useful! I skimmed most of the reading, but got the answers to Q's at my section. As long as you can answer the reading questions and memorize the key concepts, you'll do great.
Prof Gordon is definitely knowledgeable, which often leads to her lectures being full of dry facts. However, most of the material covered in class is very interesting. Everything you need to know to ace this class is in the reader and online readings, so read all of it! She is a very fair grader, quite generous actually. Great overall.
Gordon is a nice professor and I learned a lot with minimal stress—if you show up to class, do the reading, and study the weekly concepts posted on GauchoSpace before the tests, you will get an A. The readings were interesting and had real-world applications, which I liked. I definitely recommend.
Lectures extremely boring. She gives important information in her first sentence but after that she just rambles on, saying the same thing over and over again in different ways. I wanna scream!!!
