She gives little to no information on anything, her 'lectures' are just rambling, extremely eccentric lady, only way to pass is if you can replicate her insane prose and arguments, which she seems to like. Plus side, all readings are provided. Shoutout for that but everything else was a nightmare. Sure she is a nice lady, but bad class.
Tough grader, definitely not an easy A. Professor Enders cares about her students and even takes the time to get to know everyone by name. Class may be difficult for a first time public speaker, but you will gain lots of knowledge and your confidence will grow by the end of the ten weeks! Highly recommend.
Okay, a lot of these other reviews will say Professor Enders is horrible, but I had a really good experience with her. She really cares about how well her students learn to speak, and if you truly participate and learn from the lectures, you'll do just fine, I promise. She's very accessible and willing to answer questions during office hours.
She was alright. I was scared to take her class because of all the poor reviews but she wasnt too bad. Speeches are due like every week, but only two of them are in main lecture and there were only two tests.
Although shes outgoing and lively, her lectures are boring and difficult to follow. She says she wants a speech one way and then criticizes it and now wants it done another way. Almost impossible to get an A, her and her TAs expect too much from 1st time public speakers, especially during the 1 min speeches. It taught me a lot, but wouldnt retake
Professor Enders is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She gives unclear prompts for any major assignment. She is very unorganized and her lectures are hard to follow and make no sense. This feels more like an English class than anything. I would definitely never take, or recommend anyone, take a course with woman ever again.
Dr. Enders is a theatrical anomaly. Though entertaining to watch and extremely eccentric, probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. She does not provide any guidance or help in prep for exams. Does not post grades online. Hourly exam is a randomly chosen essay on one of 10 readings (30-100 pages each) or off an interview. Don't take.
Super tough class to do well in. Even though this is one of the only intro to public speaking classes at UCSB, Professor Enders expects you to be naturally be William Wallace once you get to the front of the class to deliver your speech. Also you run around the entire section classroom to "warm up" before your speech. beware.
Okay so she's whacky, no doubt. Entertaining woman. You might think she's crazy and think about dropping at the beginning-- but stay in the class. She is a genuine woman and if your wanting to improve your public speaking skills, you'll inevitably achieve that in this class
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS YOU WILL REGRET IT. I have no idea who gave her a PhD and let her teach at UCSB. I have never left a review on here but this time I genuinely feel the need to warn y'all about her. She is so attention-needy and yells at people who are not making eye contact with her or interrupts students when they're talking. AVOID AT ALL COST
Wow, so I feel like everything needs to be about her. She loves to interrupt students when they are supposed to speak. She freaks out when the attention is not on her. If it's not about her, it's wrong. She is kind of annoying because of this,.. just VERY ECCENTRIC. It's almost pathologic. don't take her.
CRAZY. HARD. CRAZY HARD. i usually dont complain but this was bad enough for me to open rate my professors and warn you about her. I dont care if you have to take a fifth year if you dont take her class- do that instead.
She is very much so eccentric/theatrical and a huge emphasis on this class is put on the rhetorical/writing aspect & it's hard to get an A. Section was the highlight of the class, you give speeches almost every week and you definitely bond with people in your class. I wish this class had more of an emphasis on delivering speeches though.
Had a hard time because most forms of outside help are a big no no(not allowed). class material can be okay but teaching style and approach make it difficult to keep up, let alone study for tests. definitely a hard class that makes you feel frustrated and confused
Professor Enders is passionate about the subject (French comedy and theater). However, her theories are complex and hard to understand especially when they are in French. She was very dramatic and loud which was very distracting. She also came across as unprofessional during lectures. The essay prompts were tough.
This woman is out of her mind. Half of lecture time is her being eccentric as hell, half is classical Greek rhetoric. Bad part is that the course material is very nuanced, but she doesn't analyze it well. She claims to like unique speeches, yet some of the best I've seen get bad grades. If it's not done EXACTLY how SHE wants it, its trash.
Enders is high energy and somewhat condescending. She is a good professor and aims to improve her students. There is no textbook so go to class; she won't let you in if you are late. You have to write speeches weekly but it isn't that bad. Section was fun; I became a big family with all the people in my section.
Not a fan. I took this class expecting a relatively easy A. Turns out that she wants half of the class to fail (average at a C). The lecture material was interesting, but I was not a fan of her pretentious style. Also, she's pretty bad at organization and clarity of lectures for a public speaking professor.
She was so fun! Her humor is great and I really enjoyed being in class. It's always stressful having class in a different language but she made everyone feel comfortable enough to speak without feeling judged.
GREAT CLASS!! Learned so much about rhetoric. And Professor Enders really does care about her students even though she has a strange way of showing it. If you are looking for a challenge or are attempting to improve your speaking I would recommend this class to you.
This is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had, at any level of school. She is crazy, insulting, and all she does during lecture is go on incomprehensible tangents and rant about what a remarkable educator she is. I would rather drop out of school than take another class from her.
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is HIGHLY recommended. Professor Enders is strict, intense, brash, and in-your-face...In a good way. She knows what she wants and where she stands and is there to deliver. If Ms. Frizzle ran boot camp...
She's a bit quirky, a bit off, and a bit like Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus. Energetic and passionate about the subject matter, as well as friendly and helpful. The material is fairly easy to grasp, as long as you show up to lecture. The discussion class can be a bit annoying as (2 hours), but it can be really fun once you get into it.
There is no text book used in the class so everything you learn was directly from lecture. DO NOT COME LATE TO HER CLASS OR YOUR SECTIONS! The tests are set up fairly easy you just need to know your information. She is a nice teacher and learns everybody's name in the first week! Don't expect a professor that is monotone because she is far from tha
