Millett is a great teacher if you actually go to class and try to learn from him. We finished the entire book and not one section wasn't clear to me. Tests are very fair and the way he grades is awesome. Don't be fooled though, you do need to go to class (prepared) if you want to do well.
Found his teaching style very unhelpful and he tended to go off on tangents. The TA was absolutely useless and the tests were poorly designed. I would not recommend taking his class.
Incredible professor, not only for his shear brilliance, but for his clarity and complete and total fairness to his students. The class structure packed too much material into one quarter; however,Millett didn't require that we know absolutely everything. I would gladly take him as a professor again. His lectures are an absolute pleasure.
A wonderfully pleasant man with deep insights into interesting ideas and concepts. Great upper division class.
Prof doesn't really explain the concepts clearly, but if you read the book and go to section you should be fine, exams are pretty easy as long as you keep up with the assignments
This professor is HORRIBLE! We had a mandatory section that was not part of Gold. It was an hr and 30 minutes long. It wasn't helpful at all, but it was MANDATORY! His lectures are boring, and unless you studied the book for about a few hours, will not understand a word. If you study the book you might be able to pass.
Positives: Super nice, the way he grades is even better than a curve, seems to care about students. Negatives: lectures are confusing, puts stuff on the test that you have never seen before and don't know how to solve.
I needed a B in this class, but the teacher is ridiculously hard. The tests never looked like the homework, and we almost never received answers to the practice midterms. The TA was in very poor communication with the teacher and millet was almost always out of town. The class average for the first test was a 50% which was a C.
Clearly brilliant, but this man was built for smaller group discussions. Very friendly, but not too helpful with answering questions, as you are often left with more questions. Go to CLAS and your discussions to learn the methods and procedures.
Millett is an nice teacher who really cares about his students. Taught material clearly and concisely and always made himself available for help. He did a better job than most profs at keeping me awake at 8 AM. Teaches off overhead though =/. Online homework due weekly. Grades fairly - wants everyone to get an A.
He gives pop quizes so you have to go to class, but his lectures are worthless and do not help at all with the online homework. He insists on putting questions on the exams that you've never seen before. His office hours were no help at all. He's a nice guy, but NOT a good professor.
hard to understand. not good about explaining math concepts. section helped me a lot more than lecture. final was hard, but midterms are relatively simple if you have a decent grab on the material.
Definitely take 3c with Millet if possible. He is a very interesting and helpful prof. If at all possible, take the CLAS for this class, it's how I got through.
good teacher... easy to pass, just go to the lectures
Millett is a nice man. Wants to be helpful, but is not recommended for lower division courses. Lectures are full of tangents and irrelevant material. His tests frequently cover matter that you've never seen & are covered with typo's. My TA is the only reason that I made it through. Enroll in CLAS, and become friends with your TA and you'll be fine.
because he is generally an upper division prof, his tests are pretty hard, but not impossible. he also strays into material that he makes seem important even though it will never be on a test or have any use in the class. this makes the tests harder since you study for this material too only to not find it on the exam
Ken needs to learn a few things before he can teach a large undergrad class again. He regularly assigns double webwork assigments and hasn't a clue on how to send a practice test over the net. He tried to scare us into coming to class everyday by saying that there would be quizes everyday. Don't go to lecture just read the book.
One of my favorite Math professors...made the class enjoyable and clear lectures. I actually learned and comprehended the material taught. Definitely would recommend!! :)
this man has a beautiful soul. in essence, that is all anything ever comes down to.
Dr. Millet is an awesome teacher. The grading in the class wasn't exactly intense or anything, but the class was small and he let the students direct where the class went. He really opened me up to different styles of teaching. He makes himself available even though he's extremely busy. He's just a man that really cares about his students.
I love this guy! He tells u what is important and what he will stress on exams. Makes u feel very comfortable and office hrs are great and non intimidating. This professor is great! He is the reason I majored in math
excellent professor. You'll actually own what you learn in the class. Really exciting problem that you learn discover and prove small problems yourself w/ his help. Especially, the project in M195. it's like unravel mathematics at your own pace. He's a really funny and understanding man.
