Professor Millett is great. He does do a lot of proofs that we dont get tested on, but if you have any questions hes great at answering them. Going to office hours definitely helps. Great teacher!
Professor Millett is the nicest guy ever but his lectures aren't ideal. He does proofs the entire time but then you are never tested on proofs so it seems kind pointless. He gives you a ton of material to prep for the test with so that's nice at least.
He is a poor lecturer, sometimes it seems that he forgets what he is goint to talk about, and he keeps making mistakes in his in-class calculations. At the beginning of the quarter the homework is very difficult because he failed to make all problems doable! The exams are basic, I guess he also feels disappointed about his students lol.
Math 6A with Millett was a joke. We taught ourselves everything and he proceeded to test us on questions we couldn't possibly prepare for. Assigned weekly homework and didn't work out the problems himself before assigning them. Some weeks literally no one in the class could finish the homework, other weeks the homework was impossible to solve.
Math 117 with Millet was the hardest math class Ive taken thus far. Ken is a nice guy with good intentions, but he is a poor lecturer. His classes were confusing and hard to follow along. Homeworks were created by the TA I believe but they were extremely challenging. Exams were also very challenging I failed every single one of them.
Ken is the worst math teacher I've ever had. Don't get the wrong he is really smart and he is a nice guy and all but I learned absolutely nothing. The lectures make no sense. The only reason I'm not failing is because I have prior knowledge of the topics. Plus, he is the only 3B professor that incorporates physics, econ, and biology into math.
Lectures make absolutely no sense. Math grad students would probably have a difficult time following this guys lectures. He constantly makes mistakes, and uses a shorthand when explaining things thinking his class will just understand it. But NO ONE does.
Content-wise this class wouldn't be that hard but Ken makes this class way more complicated and unclear. If not for my TA/CLAS/Khan Academy I definitely would fail. DO NOT TAKE 3B WITH KEN IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!
Absolutely put this class off for a quarter if that's what it takes. It seems as if Millett is more focused on solving problems in lecture for his own interest rather than teaching them. He makes simple ideas confusing, and barely skims over complex topics. Millett is sure to be amongst the worst teachers at UCSB
Most confusing lectures I've ever seen. The students taking this course are the most frustrated and disheartened group of students I've met. Practice questions and midterm he provided looked nothing like the test. The most brilliant math majors are still struggling. If 3B is being taught by him, do yourself a favor and wait til the next quarter.
If you have the choice to not take his class, don't. He is one of the many bad professors of the math department. Read before lectures because his class is boring, useless, and full of old man rambling. His office hours are not helpful, he makes you and others wait and basically recites the syllabus. Not recommended.
if you choose this professor, that will be the worst thing in your life. Remember this work: change the professor
