He is an AMAZING professor. Very down to earth when you visit him during office hours. I agree the tests were too easy and required remembering useless information but it kept me on my toes. TA was wonderful too! The majority of the reading was fun to read with only some sections dry but I always looked forward to reading.
A bit arrogant. sometimes he can be interesting, but generally he is too arrogant.
Good teacher, but his lecturing can get a bit monotonous and long-winded. However, he's totally willing to go in depth with concepts if you interrupt him and ask a question. Really easy tests!!

Professor Amar is an amazing global studies teacher! he is very intelligent and extremely helpful especially when you go to office hours! take this course with him and you will learn a lot and be inspired!
Amar taught a very interesting global 2 class that was not too difficult if you kept up with the work load. The tests had some bogus q's (authors of articles) but were mostly straightforward and not too difficult.
Overall a really great professor, his lectures are always really interesting and clear and doesn't hesitate to make jokes sometimes. The only complaint I have is that his test questions are often on small details that you couldn't have possibly known to study and remember and it can be frustrating. Highly recommend taking his classes ;D
Excellent professor, clear and cogent. Had no difficult explaining and discussing the topics, as well as offering fresh insights and perspectives. Remarkably objective, a quality that I really appreciated. Would recommend taking courses from this prof.
Amar was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. The class had so much potential to be amazing but his tests were filled with completely irrelevant, minute details that don't really teach you anything. I don't know about everyone else but I personally like to be tested on concepts and deeper ideas, not stuff like "who wrote this article?" Don't take this class with him!
Excellent professor with so much real-world experience. I feel like he is actually teaching me, not just lecturing at me. The reader is extremely interesting - one of the best I have come across. He holds regular office hours, is very approachable and can give advice about career, travel, studies... Highly recommended.
He's very enthusiastic about what the subject and has actually experienced a lot of what he's teaching. The class was pretty easy and covered a lot of interesting topics. Also, he was very understanding of a personal problem that I had. I'm definitely taking another class with him!
Great guy! He posts his lecture and reading online, which saves money but makes going to class not necessary. Midterm and final weren't hard, but the policy brief took longer than expected. Would recommend this prof/class!
He was a great teacher and very passionate about the class. The tests, paper and sections were easy. You do not really need to go to this class because all lectures and readings are posted online which also means you don't have to buy a book. Score!
Professor Amar is the most arrogant professor I have taken at UCSB. He makes the class read an immense amount of material and asks questions that do not test for depth/understanding, but basics. The class isn't fairly difficult, and the knowledge that you take is very helpful. Also the class can be saved if your ta is excellent. Enroller beware.
Amar is awesome! He is open to letting you explore what you are interested in and is there to help you when you need him. If you want a teacher who has actually been all over the world teaching you about the world, he is perfect!
His tests were super easy and he seems like a nice guy. Dresses like a tango instructor which is hilarious hahah but he seemed passionate and knowledgeable about what he was teaching I guess... I don't know didn't go to class that often... but its a good class and I LOVED section. Also, he has my dads name hahah
