He's not a very clear lecturer because he has an accent but after taking other physics professors, I actually thunk he's the best physics professor at UCSB. Nicknamed Mr. Diis... go to lecture and you'll see why! His demos were the best part of lecture and he really makes the class fun. Take CLAS for sure if you want to get an A though.
He was a cool funny old guy. His experiments in class were funny. but in terms of his teaching, all he does is derive equations. Also, his grading is 25% for each of the 2 midterms and 50% final. There is no buffer with homework or anything but he does curve down to an 85% for an A.
He is a precious older man and will make you laugh, but his teaching is simply not helpful. He proves standard equations true but hardly does any practice problems to put the information into context. In order to pull of a B- I had to hire a private tutor, because the CLAS guy wasnt helpful (to me) at all.
Incredible professor! He is hilarious to watch and is incredibly knowledgeable. He made physics fun and knows how to explain everything. You have to be an active learner and ask him questions or else he'll blast through the material. Easily the best professor I've had at UCSB
Very smart, definitely knows what he's talking about. He's funny and his questions make you think. I could see his classes being difficult for somebody who doesn't like physics, however. I've had him as a teacher for 3 classes now and would choose him over most other physics professors here.
Worst professor in my 4 quarters at UCSB. He made me dislike physics with a passion because of his lack of knowledge, messy hand writing, and useless lectures where he taught nothing and just wrote formulas on the board. I was lucky to get an A because his tests are not easy, even if you study the practice exams he gives you. Avoid at all costs.
I don't know why people think he's a good professor. He's a nice guy and acts like a cute grandpa, but all he does is derive equations on the overhead. I don't understand anything he is saying and he doesn't teach us how to do any of the material. I had to teach myself everything. I went to every lecture and took notes and it still didn't help.
Roig is such a funny professor, he will make your day! Does a demonstration every lecture. Midterms are easy to study for- just do the practice midterms. For final, you need a bit more practice and it's worth 50% of your grade. Course gets harder as you go on. Take Roig! 8/10
I went to all the lectures because CLAS suck but if there is a good CLAS teacher then going to lecture is unnecessary. Just don't make stupid mistakes and you will be fine.
Great professor, the material was hard, but that's the material. Otherwise, he's one of the few researchers that really tries to teach, and he does a pretty good job at it. Just watch out for his pretty bad handwriting.
I totally bombed the final (50%) but got (85%) on the midterms and I still got a B- He grades high, if you have an 80% its actually a B+. You only have to get an 85% to get an A-. The midterms are exactly the same as practice exams, final too. Definately an easy class. I never studied and I got a B-. There wasnt any homework either, dont need it
I have no idea why people like him, he made me hate physics, you just don't get what he says, he writes down formulas and thats it, no explanation, I did not learn anything.
I have only 1 word to describe him: He is GOD. He is one of THE BEST profs of UCSB! ...nuff said!
he is very nice and class is interesting. he tries to make the class easy and gives a sheet of equations. hes very helpful when you talk to him. only problem is sometimes he has bad handwriting. look over his examples. should do the hoemwork and quizes to do well on the tests a lot of the times the questions show up on the tests exactly the same.
Best physics prof of them all, shame he doesn't teach 6B or 6C. Got an A by going to every lecture and skimming the book. Worth taking just to see him ride the rocket-propelled wagon around the lecture hall!
he always has some kind of demonstration that has to do with physics. he's really nice and wants to help you understand the concepts. his tests are fair, there's multiple choice and free response. multiple choice questions are tricky and are worth a lot and no partial credit. takes questions from hw probs and examples in the book, so do them!
really nice teacher, clear, wants to get concepts across, tries to make the class laugh and does demonstrations. Tests are fair, often says which material will be on it.
Great Teacher, Great Class, Great Subject.
Best professor ever!
Prof. Roig is awesome! He is very clear in his lectures. He goes out of his way to make sure you know the material and will often tell you specific things that will be on the tests. He has a great sense of humour also!
Considering this is physics, this class wasn't as hard as I had anticipated. He has a bit of a thick accent that takes some getting used to. There are 2 midterms, a final, lab work and weekly quizzes. The quizzes are exactly like the homework, so do it! Also, the TA, Feraz, is SUPER HOT!
His lectures are interesting, but things get confusing at times where there is not very much help, the TA doesn't do much either.. he's lame!!! But all in all its a cool class to take.. I recommend Roig, but not the TA Feraz..
He actually makes physics fun, even if you're just taking it for pre-major requirements. He's really clear and his tests are easy if you're willing to study a little. Ride that rocket, Roig!
