Very cool guy. Super easy to talk to and really likes class participation. I'm a Biology major and just took this class for UD units, but it was really enjoyable and I looked forward to going to class because he kept it interesting. There was just a midterm and final, both in class essays. Super open minded questions, pretty easy grading.
Awesome teacher! He is a very approachable, down to earth, chill guy. He is also very attractive. Wears dress socks with Birkenstocks. 10/10 would recommend.
He gives fantastic lectures and his tests aren't too hard. He doesn't always respond to emails but if you ask him a question after class he'll be happy to answer and very helpful.
I would take any class from prof. Aldana! His enthusiasm makes you want to show up for class every day and the lectures are actually really cool and interesting. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get creative, he likes this!
Really cool guy. Super knowledgeable about this stuff. His quizzes can be difficult but the final was ridiculously easy. Have to do a lot of reading but most of it is actually pretty interesting. Highly recommend this class. Aldana got up on the table once and he told us about the alien theories. Favorite professor here so far.
Super enthusiastic about his subject and incorporates very recent findings in the field while also using many different types of learning. However, I think he expects a little too much out of his students. Def not an easy class. Also he gave us a group project with the most vague directions. A lot of reading. Amazing teacher and lecturer though
This guy knows his stuff. If you pay attention to the way he structures slides he has a clear thesis and brings it all together at the end to blow your damn mind. I feel it's like a Ted talk. he is very approachable and will answer any questions you have despite how difficult some of these simpletons seem to think his class is.
Aldana very enthusiastic and likeable but the class itself was difficult. I think the content is interesting, but the course is very reader based and the readings are extremely dense. The quizzes are not difficult and essays are the worst. The TAs weren't my favorite either. I do not recommend this class but happy readings if you take it!
Absolutely terrible class. He is enthusiastic, i'll give him that. However the lectures were absolutely ridiculous. People i know majoring in chicano studies didn't understand his points. He butchered the subject. Should not be allowed to teach
I loved the class chicano studides 13, i signed up while the class had GE's and after i went back and found out they changed it so im mad about that. But the professor was great the class easy reading not too terrible and papers, midterms, and final pretty easy
HE IS REALLY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THIS SUBJECT: STUDY OF ANCIENT MESOAMERICA. HIS LECTURES GO BY REALLY QUICKLY BECAUSE IT IS SO INTERESTING. There were four writing assignments and five quizzes, not at all overwhelming. He is a knowledgeable professor, who has great style!!! collared shirts and awesome looking blalzers!
well speaking from an undergraduate perspective who is majoring in CH ST's this class was horrible. To this day I do NOT understand semiotics!.. his lectures were incredibly abstract! Not to mention his midterm was a joke!, it was a crossword puzzle with NO wordbank..so you if you dont know french or spanish last names, tough luck.
This class was awful. The professor's lectures were completely unorganized and nothing of substance was learned. Avoid this class, it is a waste of time and the professor should perhaps work on his teaching ability.
Aldana is interesting: I respect his attempt to engage students as much as possible, but he made the course so much more difficult than was necessary! For a GE, 2 papers, a journal, community service, and video project is too much! Definitely not your typical professor; grading and exams are like nothing I've ever seen (a crossword on our midterm)!
professor is very motivated and is truly interesting in what he teaches which makes you want to learn....tries new ways to engage students...not like other classes....some concepts are very hard to grasp though but always offers help
I can speak as a graduate student: Prof. Aldana is definetely a brilliant scholar and very good teacher. He is challenging, engaging and interested in what students have to say. Whoever thinks the opposite probably didn't do his or her homework... If you are looking for an "easy" class, look somewhere else. But then: what are you doing in school?
Fairly speaking: awsome person, terrible lecturer. He does not know how to make things clear and simple. His thinking is TOO out there to understand, he's too complex. Lecture is totally unorganized, reading is OK. TAs (most often) are TERRIBLE! I got a good grade, but learned absolutely NOTHING! would not recommend this to u even for GEs.
Aldana is brilliant and always available to help students. My TA was not that great, but I can't blame Aldana for that. As a white student, I never felt alien to the subject matter and was able to learn about a whole different culture, which is why I came to school to begin with! Great professor; it seems folks here hated the TAs, not him.
WORST CLASS EVER. DESIREE IS THE WORST TA EVER ALSO. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Prof. Aldana is an excellent professor who expects a lot from his students and cares about them as well. He is definitely not an easy professor but those who are willing to put forth the effort will come away much better prepared to know and defend their own theoretical positions. Professor Aldana was incredibly nice and informative. He is very passionate about his topics and knows what he's talking about. I enjoyed the class very much and recommend it to anyone interested in learning about Mayan culture. He had fun small projects to help better understand the topics he was lecturing about and made the class very interesting
This is my favorite professor ever! Hes tottaly awesome and has the most interesting things to teach you about. Taking the time to talk to him outside of class is so worth it. Im going to take every class of his that i can!
