I took this class as a GE and I actually learned. Very interesting class and barely any homework. Study a decent amount for the quizzes, midterm, and test and you will easily pass the class.

A very nice man but assigns essentially a homework assignment or quiz or essay due by the next lecture. We are only in week 8 and I have done at least 15 assignments, a quiz, and an essay (800+ word minimum not bad). Overall he is not the worst but can definitely be better.

Not sure why others are complaining about MES45, not the most interesting lectures but easy GE. Lots of assigned reading, I only read the stuff that looked interesting, got a free A. Skipped a lot of lecture, but section was mandatory. Brought his wife and they cooked Middle Eastern dishes for a lecture which was cool, and tasty. Rating 5 to bump.

Made lecture somewhat interesting, easy course, great personality. Barely looked over readings and got a good grade regardless. Would highly recommend.

His lectures are long and not very engaging which makes it hard to grasp all of the content, as his slides are very minimal and the reading is heavy. I did very little reading and did fine. He gives study guides for midterms and the final; however, the questions on the tests are much more specific than whats on the study guide.

Campo isn't very tech-savvy or organized in lectures, which means he doesn't expect much in his class. I never went to lecture and just showed up for the tests (2 midterms, 1 final) and everything he tests for is on the study guide. he assigns a lot of reading but I haven't looked at them once and do fine.

worst professor I have every had his lectures were long and boring, merely reads off his slides which have little to no information on them, he posts study guides the night before the test, comes late to tests giving us limited time, is rude to his students, and shows no care in his job. I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy.

nice guy, but lectures were long and it was difficult to stay engaged. quizzes and exams were easy enough but lots of reading. would recommend looking elsewhere for a ge.

I took Modern Islamic Movements this spring. Professor Campo is clearly an expert in this field, and his academic clout is warranted. The material is difficult and there is a lot of it, but because the Professor writes Encyclopedias of Islam, he knows how to present the material clearly and concisely.

Pretty cool class concept, but a lot harder than it seems. All assignments were very straightforward, but the quizzes are horrible. Absolutely horrendous quizzes (class avg. was a C). The hardest part is memorizing middle eastern dishes and their importance/context in the course as well as the ingredients. Nice guy tho & does food lab with his wife

Seriously had to take this because there was nothing left. My 3.8 gpa dropped because of this class. Regret it completely. Got a C I would advise you if it’s not your major don’t take it don’t take him. He will give you a study guide but then put other questions and the final is BS

Professor Juan Campo is opinionated and dogmatic in his approach to teaching; he doesn't welcome alternative perspectives and ideas. The subjective portion of exams is harshly graded if you do not regurgitate his opinions. If you don't toe the line, your grade will suffer, and you will receive lower marks, so be warned.
