I took this class in Spring of 2021. TA's are very nice and are willing to give you extensions, but the Professor is so hard to understand. She took mid-way surveys and knew that her teaching wasn't working but she didn't listen or change from her feedback. It's unfortunate that this was my first interaction with LAIS at UCSB as a Spanish major.
Her lectures are poorly organized but the material is relatively easy and completely doable. There are three essays throughout the quarter and they all have the same prompt so it's pretty easy to figure out how to write the essay. Personally, I did not like this class because the disorganization was too much but it's not particularly challenging.
This class adapted the best to online mode. Yes, there's a lot of reading, but even if you just skim to get the general ideas, you'll do well. The lectures sorta long, but the group work is easy. Overall, They are so incredibly flexible and understanding during all this, and seem to want you to succeed. Especially the TAs. Truly homies.
Her lectures were boring and hard to follow. We had group work every week with the same people, meaning if you fall into the role of doing everything, you're stuck forever. Also, she was very confusing with links and what would happen during class. All around would not take again.
The lectures are bad, the essay prompts make no sense, theres too much reading, the professor has no sympathy for the students needs under COVID, this class is unnecessarily hard and soul crushing. Dont take it, you will regret it. And Im sugarcoating things so this post doesnt get taken down.
i took this class in the fall and i got bored during every. single. lecture. she just shows a powerpoint with a picture on it then reads off a piece of paper. tests include multiple long essays, and the 3 essays due throughout the quarter are worse.
