FULKERSON S D
Many say Scott is tough, but he wants the best for his students. If you go to class, do the homework, and study ahead of time, you will succeed. He is very personable, knowledgable, funny, and good at teaching. I really think he has a bad rep for no reason. I loved his class and hope to take him again. He sets you up for success in future classes.
Took Fulkerson for 3b and just took him again for 136a. If you did well in 3a and 3b at UCSB, 136a will be a breeze. Fulkerson structures 136a very similarly to 3b so if you enjoyed that class, definitely take 136a with Fulkerson. He grades on a curve but it generally helps you. Attendance is optional but he gives test answers during class.
Really funny, good professor. Exams were mostly based off the slides he provides. However, I think since Econ 185 is an elective the curve should be closer to 75/25 A's and B's rather than 50/50.
Personable guy and good lecturer. However, just the slides & sections won't save you on the test (I made that mistake.) Very difficult class, curved up to department recommendation, which seems fair. Scott as a teacher is very chill, just beware of those exams. Study. And do the HW.
he loves the 67 joke
Scott was very personable, and I found his lectures effective and enjoyable. Although tests are hard, he gives you resources to be able to succeed in them. Definitely do the back-of-the-book problems until they are muscle memory, and you will succeed. I also found reading the textbook helpful. He does curve the class though.
Best professor I've had at this school so far. Scott is a great lecturer and he makes his expectations very clear at the beginning of the quarter. It is a difficult class, but if you put in the work, your grade will reflect that.
LOVE SCOTT!!! Best professor ever! Very difficult class tho…but it is curved!
Scott is the best possible accounting professor, he is super nice and very savvy in the material he covers. I would especially recommend this class due to the Simulations we do in class where he emulates a conversation with an actual CFO. However, the final portion of this class is self taught in the background during the sims which sucks.
This class was so much work for a pre-major class. Get ready to spend several hours every single week reading the textbook + doing the WileyPlus hw problems, which are extremely challenging (TAs sometimes get them wrong too) + doesn't even reflect questions on his difficult exams. !! He also imposes a curve so that only 10% of students get an A !!!
The course is hard content-wise: you have to CRITICALLY understand the concepts. HOWEVER, this class added A LOT OF UNNECESSARY stress. He structures the class where only 10% of students get As, so you are COMPETING AGAINST OTHERS. I haven't seen any other professor in the Econ department do this (even though he says it's a department requirement).
Amazing lecturer, willing to help you with anything that you have trouble. Just make sure you're on top of the content and get help when needed. The TAs are also super helpful with homework and any questions that you have.
