Jackson is one of those mythical professors you hear about from your peers whose competency makes you dissatisfied with your own professors. I made a RMP account just to write this. Lectures are outstandingly concise and clear; the midterm is hard but fair, and with a massive curve. You will learn so much about Native American history.
Great professor, interesting topic. He cares and loves teaching this class, and works with students. As long as you put in the work, you'll do well. Grades pretty fair. Recommended!
Jackson is a great guy with a very easygoing personality. His assignments (there are many) are a drag, but it's a writing class so it's normal. Going to office hours helps with your grade and he likes to see enthusiasm. The topics you have to write about are pretty dry, too. BUT, he's HOT!
Really amazing prof. While most teachers show writing feedback by handing back papers with some red marks on it, he records himself speaking about how he felt about your paper for several minutes; truly cares about your work. Super length assignments that sometimes take all night, but really a great class that he makes apply to everything. 10/10
Loved taking writing 50 with Prof. Wakrentin. Lots of reading (just skim the assigned readings), but as long as you show up to class and put in the work, you should be fine! He makes the class interesting and gives you lots of freedom for thoughts and your final paper (which you build on the whole quarter).
He is a good writing professor. Although the class has a decent amount of work, he helps you through every step/process. You will learn A LOT from this course in terms of writing and researching on relevant issues. He is also approachable and accessible outside of class and willing to offer help in anyway.
Amazing professor! There was a lot of busy work for this class but it prepares you for your final papers. He really wants you to succeed. I have never been a great writer, but he allows his students to take each project and make it your own. Would definitely take another class with him again.
His lectures are straight to the point and he often throws out puns as he explains the events in history. He doesn't expect people to know the exact dates that certain important events happen but rather stresses on the significance of the event and its impact on later eras.
Professor Warkentin is super relatable and makes you feel comfortable in his class. His lectures are entertaining and insightful. You get the sense he really wants you to become a better writer. There is a good deal of writing assigned but that's not specific to this professor. He gives you the creative license to go off script a little.
Good professor. Funny, entertaining, and informative. At times his lectures can be fast paced or mumbled so it can be hard to get down information that might be important for the tests. Very important to go to lecture because he talks about things that aren't in the books. All around a good teacher, TA really determines your grade for the class.
He's a cool and funny guy. He starts his lectures off by playing nice music and his lectures are pretty laid-back but informative. The tests were pretty easy and you'll do fine as long as you know the significance of all the ID Terms that he gives you in the beginning of lecture.
Warkentin is a phenomenal lecturer. He gives you test ID's at the beginning of each class and discusses them in more detail during the lecture. These ID's are what you need to know for the tests but the other information he provides is invaluable. Textbook is great for context but not do-or-die. You're assigned two other interesting books, a paper.
