If you want a course with absolutely no homework, take this one. However, the midterm and final are make or break. If you want to pass, take notes on as much of what he says as you can- word for word if you're quick. And when exam prompts are posted, pick thru his words and memorize your general stance/opinion on the question and why.
One of those profs who is clearly brilliant in his field but is NOT a good teacher. He has good lectures when he is properly prepared, but is very scattered, making it hard to learn. Overall, he is consistently behind and unorganized. Tough grader, midterm/final are an in-class essay. No outside hw besides readings. Takes class attendance randomly.
This professor is just a piece of work. The fact that he does not explain anything to me and does not help me improve in his class makes him such a creep and he goes off talking about irrelevant tangents. He would have to get fired. Failed my midterm and final with this guy. After I work so hard in his class. Acing everything. I am wasting my time.
His lectures are very confusing, and he goes off on tangents and is all over the place, which makes class very hard to follow and feel useless to go to. However, attendance is mandatory and part of your grade. This class was my lowest grade I've received at UCSB. Avoid at all costs. Protect your GPA & take something else. If you take him, good luck
Professor Garr is one of those professor that you enjoy as a person but that is dry as dirt in lecture. They were so long and the slides so scarce and mostly not interpretable that it was very hard to follow and concentrate. He is very quirky but in terms of material, the most boring class I have taken at UCSB so far. Slides not posted. Go to class
Prof Garr is easily my favorite professor at UCSB. He is helpful, intelligent, and really fun to be in class with. He keeps things interesting but he really knows his stuff!
prof. garr is amazing. hes a great guy and he keeps his classes interesting. he is truly dedicated to helping his students succeed.
Awesome teacher of Hebrew. Very difficult but rewarding. Takes interest in students' success.
Prof. Garr is the boss of Hebrew. It's not an easy language and it's not an easy class - there's a LOT to memorize - but Garr give really clear explanations and sometimes makes really funny jokes. He also wants students to do well, so if you keep trying, he'll keep helping.
professor garr was excellent. he serves as a wonderful example of a professor who is more interested in having his students understand the subject he teaches (which you can tell he has a passion and genuine interest for) as opposed to regurgitating material in an attempt to provide a roadblock for students seeking their bachelor degrees.
Garr is AMAZING! THe most interesting religious studies class I have taken, mainly because of how he presents the material. The tests are easy, he gives the questions in advance, just take notes.
He is incredibly interesting, the bible takes on a new meaning after he explains it.
