Smoak is a great lecturer. I had him for Ancient Near East Religion, which could have been VERY boring, but he kept my attention every class. The content wasn't my favorite, but his slides are easy to follow and extremely helpful. He was a great professor.

Professor Smoak is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable in his field! He keeps lectures interesting and you leave with a new understanding everyday! A word to the wise: careful if you take him just for G.E. He assigns a TON of reading - required and supplemental, and had us do a 10page research paper. It was the most intense class of my quarter

Amazing Amazing professor. One of the best I've ever had. Made every lecture engaging and interesting. After taking this class i know want to study archeology. If you ever have the chance to take a class with him DO IT

This professor is so awesome - he usually teaches at UCLA but try to snag him while he is still here! You definitely have to do all the readings and go to every class but he is fun to listen to and makes the material very interesting. He is also real with you about what you need to do, and the tests were very doable.
