She will tell you exactly what she wants and if you do not do your papers exactly that way then you will get a bad grade. I was right on the borderline of getting an A- and I even revised a paper but still ended up with a B+. There are easier writing teachers.
There is a ridiculous amount of busy work, she is condescending, and she doesn't seem to like you unless you're overly friendly and responsive to her authority. I was neither. I'm a good writer, and she made me hate this paper and the class. Avoid avoid avoid, Writing 50 should not be this unpleasant.
The class is pretty simple. Go into office hours if you need help because she will tell you exactly what she expects. The final exam did not affect my final grade at all so don't stress about it.
Her class was interesting but not interesting enough to stay awake through. The assignments were easy enough and she provided me with great suggestions as to how to edit my essays.
I luv dr Avery! She is an amazing prof! She is so funny and the writing assignments focus o sex gender and attraction! I'm not a good writer but with avery's guidence I did very well in her class! Thank u dr Avery! Will be taking her other writing couses! You won't regret taking her class!
Dr. L rocks hard. This was a research writing class, and we got to pick our own topics. She knows a lot about a lot and I even learned how to write and revise faster and better. Grad school here I come!
im a terrible writer but for some reason she loved my essays. A's on her essays but a C on the final graded by another professor
She is definitely condescending. As it is a mandatory class, there are students who need less help with their writing. These students seemed to be graded lower because she likes to have her way in how things are done. You will get a good grade if you do things her way and if you actually need her help.
First I was stoked on this class because the topic was abstract and seemed pretty interesting (happiness) but then it was all down hill from there. She's unclear as to what she exactly wants (& she wants something exact it seems) while also trying to be "free-minded." Doesn't work out. The class is do-able, but you do have to try to please her alot
I took her Writing 2LK class; linked sociology. We did about to things related to sociology, but not even interesting. For example we had a sociological analysis of a trend at UCSB; how r we supposed to be sociological when her explanations are so vague? She's a bit condescending, likes to laugh randomly. Do what SHE WANTS and you'll do good.
It seems like some people don't like her teaching style, but I found her suggestions really helpful. The readings were fun and relevant to the Sociology course and the assignments prepared me for other college classes so well that I'm still using one of her handouts to figure stuff out. Better to take a GE that helps!
I disliked her because I found her to be incompetent and useless at answering questions
