I was thoroughly upset with the course: 1) the midterm study guide did NOT match the actual midterm. 2) the lectures were hard to follow and did not always correlate with the lesson. 3) the weekly quizzes at times would contain content on events that weren't yet taught (or in the lesson plan at all) resulting in a lowered grade.
Prof Lindemann is an interesting professor. He has been at UCSB for 50 years. Yes, that is right, 50. Yet his teaching style can be frustrating if you're not prepared to weed out the pertinent material in his lectures, which are both long and without pause. Because of this, the midterm/final is difficult to prepare for, but doable. Don't recommend.
Did not welcome open discussion and took offense easily. The class mood was icy as nobody wanted to annoy Dr. Lindemann.
fascinating class with a lot of potential for intellectual discussion not possible in conventional classes. Quite a bit of work for a 2-unit course, though to be fair it is an upper-div honors seminar. Quizzes a bit annoying, and prof has high expectations for your final paper. Prof has a very broad and intense understanding of the jewish existence
Lindeman is perhaps the most brilliant man you will ever meet, the kinda guy you want to be your grandpa. However, he is very challenging. Lectures are mandatory but are very worth attending. Strict grader and he doesn't take BS. If you're willing to risk getting a C (or lower) in exchange for one of the best classes ever, take a Lindeman class
Old school professor. I had him twice and was impressed by his voluminous knowledge of history. He speaks at least five languages and commands English like a tactician. Be warned: he is the most difficult professor in the department. Attend all classes, and only speak if you're making a relevant point; he has no sympathy for the unprepared.
Professor Lindemann is an excellent teacher. His class is challenging and requires a high level of geographic literacy but he is extremely knowledgable and willing to share his knowledge. He is a strict but fair grader requiring proper grammer and spelling on his wriiting assignment and tests. His classes are challenging but worthwhile.
One of the best professors at UCSB. I had him three times, including my proseminar. He also wrote recommendations for me for grad school. The quizzes, book reviews, and tests are a lot, but you wind up learning what you need to. He's a fair grader.
He is nice but too demanding. Quizzes and exams are hard. He gives minuses points if you choose a wrong answer from a multiply choice question.
If you like geography and have a lot of time to dedicate to his class then go for it. However, his lectures are scattered and sometimes hard to follow. He is an extremely hard grader and he loves to give you maps. good luck in his class you will need it! I do not recommend.
One of the best history professors! Brings the events of European Histroy into focus, facilitating a grater understanding of what's happening today. Sarkozy, Brown, Putin, Merkel!!! How can one possible understand contemporary France, Great Britain, Russia, and Germany, and their leadership without a clear grasp of the European past. See Prof A.S.L
He is not the easiest history professor here, but he is definitely the best. He knows his stuff. His tests are hard and challenging, but if you do the reading and attend lectures you should do fine.
