Seems like a nice lady but not a good professor. She spends WAAAY to much time in lecture talking about the unimportant details, consequently, lecture was behind a week for the entire second half of the year. Lectures are boring and just a restatement of the reading. Power points are disorganized, hard to follow and have no natural flow.
Professor Freeman is a nice lady, however her lectures were an absolute waste of time (and I attended EVERY lecture). Much of her lecture was copied verbatim from the assigned readings, and it was really difficult to study for the test because the guidelines were not especially clear and material to study was not narrowed down.
I have been excited to take this course and interested in the material, but this class was ruined for me with unclear lectures and messy tests. The whole quarter I felt like a guinea pig, she has never taught the class before, lectures were a mess, her tests were never clear, by unclear I mean that the TA's weren't even able to pass the midterm.
Wait another quarter if you can if she's teaching this class. She ruins what would have been a pretty interesting class. Super boring. All she does is read from the textbook. She pretty much depends on her TAs to teach her class during section. Stay away from Freeman if you can.
Super boring. She needs to take a class on how to teach a course. I don't think she understands that she's being paid to teach, not to read slides that were copied directly from the textbook. Come on, now.
I was really excited to take a poli sci class this quarter and it was a very disappointing experience. The lectures were boring and taken word for word from the textbook. The only things added to them were "little cartoons"-the professor. On a good day she gets through 2 out of the 7 sections she has planned. She does provide some comedic relief.
What a mess. She rambles. The material SHOULD be interesting, but it's not. Why is she still allowed to teach...? Come on, UCSB. If I'm paying this much tuition, at least have the courtesy and respect to hire good professors.
This professor is terrible. Her lecture slides are a joke. She very clearly just copies huge amount of text from Wikipedia and puts it into a powerpoint along with stealing other people's slides which is very obvious because she does not change the format at all. Further, her slides are riddled with typos and impossible to follow.
Professor Freeman is one of the most unorganised, boring lecturers I have ever had. Most lectures don't make sense and her information is always in confusing orders. Some of the topics have potential to be interesting, but her lectures ruin them.
Do not take this class. This is the most unprofessional and unprepared instructor that I have had in my four years at UCSB. I would normally never rate a professor, and haven't used this website since freshman year, but she is so bad I felt the need to do this. This is the course I was most excited for, and she has ruined it.
Disorganized and goes on tangents, but very relevant information in every lecture. Learned A LOT, make sure to go to lecture, sit in front, skim the readings and it will be clear what she plans to put on exams and what is expected from papers.
Other reviews are right; very unorganized and hard to follow. Pretty decent teacher as fair as subject knowledge goes, but spends an absurd amount of time talking about what she will talk about the next class instead of just discussing or explaining it. I'm a fan of previewing/prefacing the next class's material, but this is ridiculous.
By far one of the most unorganized professors I've had yet. She knows the material very well, but has trouble staying on topic and getting her point across. Also, too much pointless readings. But her tests are straight-forward and fair.
Lectures are rambling, lacking coherence seem nervous or disorganised with shallow anecdotes about Japan. Prof. skitters all over the material that might otherise have been more interesting. TA's are unhelpfull as well with bizzare lecture antics, making an otherwise easy course more difficult by discussiom politcs. Also, if this is not libelous prof. resembles a Muppet.
subject matter was a bit boring so can't blame her for putting people to sleep. She's got terrible handwriting but if she types up her overhead, you're fine...
