Graded by Section Attendance/Participation, Midterm, Final (each 3 short answer ques). Readings were not as disturbing as people are making them out to be. Nuanced content, interesting to learn about. Only issue is Pandya would say he would post lectures after Wed. lectures, but would post them inconsistently; into the next week when we moved on

Lectures were VERY interesting, helped us to understand the readings, and WERE VERY SIMILAR to the midterm & final (75% of grade). A lot of dense readings (read around a book or multiple short stories/two weeks), but as an Asian American, I found them super engaging. Learned what it means to be ASAM via different lenses. Sections also were helpful!
I love Sameer sm!!! The material was pretty dense and vacuous at times, but Prof Pandya was super passionate during his lectures and made it easy to grasp the more difficult concepts. The reading can be alot, but if you keep up with the schedule it isn't horrible, and the assigned books were really good anyways so I didn't mind.
I LOVE Professor Pandya! He's is THE BEST. His lectures are amazing, he really shows that he knows what he's talking about and is VERY passionate about it. Grading is very clear and the reading is pretty chill, just keep up on the schedule he gives on the syllabus and you're good.
GOAT GE professor, his lectures were amazing first and foremost and was extremely interesting for a general education. Uploaded his lecture material when asked by his students, super straightforward midterm so long as you paid attention, and was aware of the situations that impacted his students. Super understanding professor highly recommend.
This class is a good, interesting, and pretty easy GE. Reading amount was expected for a lit class and all very interesting texts. Lectures were offered online as well but I wish more people had come to class because lectures were very engaging and interesting. Prof Pandya has very insightful things to say and perspectives. Highly recommend!
The grading is harder than what I heard from other Students. Many of my friends got low 80s on their essays. However, hard work and good writing are rewarded, as I got 95+ on both essays.
Pandya is an incredible lecturer, I came into his class knowing nothing about Asian American lit and I was engaged for the full hour and a half he spoke twice a week. A lot of reading, but grade is mostly papers so you can LitCharts your way through his class and not keep up with weekly readings. Would definitely take his class again!
He is a nice person. His class was involved and interesting, but this class is not that easy.
Professor Pandya is an eloquent, intelligent teacher, and I enjoyed the readings for his class. A lot of it is very abstract however, and so are his exam questions. Definitely graded harder than I thought it would be, so wouldn't recommend taking as a GE. Only 2 things (2 essays) go in the grade book, and section attendance is VERY mandatory.
This is my third quarter in a row with Pandya (ASAM 5 in summer, 100FF in fall and now 15) and I really enjoy his classes! He genuinely cares about his students and about our feedback about the class. ASAM 100FF was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be; it was an 11 AM, so people were a little quiet but the class was still fun!
I took ASAM5 over summer and it was super easy and enlightening. Despite the amount of reading that we had to sift through, the TAs were always very flexible, fair, and accommodating. Pandya is also a great lecturer definitely wish I had this class in person!
Took Professor Pandya's course last year. Very inspirational yet very hard. Lots of reading and critical thinking. Also, it's fun to talk to Prof Pandya, a great man with lots of thoughts.
I had Prof. Pandya my fall quarter. Both the midterm and the final were essay-based, so its good to understand what your TA looks for in writing. Lectures are based on his interpretation of the texts so lectures are in a sense mandatory , but theres no iClicker or anything. The content is really interesting and he presents it effectively.
Pandyas class is all about the readings so you must stay on top of them in order to follow along in lecture. He is good about teaching the topics and is very enthusiastic about the material. He tends to try to engage with the class by asking questions, sometimes until he gets the answer he wants. All the readings were interesting and memorable.
Can't really appreciate this kind of literature class, feeling quite uncomfortable with some of the contents and views. Choose another department gets class for ethnicity requirement if you can.
could be a bit more exciting in terms of lectures & he moves too fast. however, i enjoyed the material of this class. pro tip: he keeps paper copies of his lecture slides, so if you skip/miss class, be there for the end of it because you can take pictures of those slides after class (not uploaded online). regurgitate slides on midterm & you good
Lectures and readings are heavy and overcomplicate everything in the course. Half the time pandaya up there rambling some bull because he has to fill an hour with concepts that are simple. His grading criteria is ambiguous and he aims for a B- average in this class.
Very knowledgeable and a good lecturer, but his slides are sometimes too complicated and he goes by materials really fast. It is lecture heavy, so you don't have to read unless you pay attention in lectures. Grade consists of section, midterm, paper, and final. Overall a solid professor.
Honestly one of my favorite lecturers. Readings are interesting, though some are on the longer side. He's really good with engaging students, which is difficult with a lecture hall of 200 kids. Movie days are bomb.
I loved this class. The professor made the content interesting and he is very excited and passionate about what he teaches. Go to lecture because the midterm and final are on his interpretations of the texts, and he doesn't post the slides online. Go to section too. The TAs grade everything, so figure out what they want.
Does not post lecture slides online and the lecture slides are text heavy!! I think if you do all the reading, go to lectures, and put effort into studying you should get an A (especially in a GE) but apparently not in this class. I would take P/NP if I were you. Or just not take this class.
He is super dedicated, interesting and helpful. All lectures are important and I feel are necessary to understanding the bigger picture of what the readings are really about. Do the readings and go to most lectures, and you'll get an A. Prof wants us to succeed and engages the class. Readings are well selected!
