Just don't take this class. trust.
She wasn't as bad as some people had said she was but she wasn't great either. The entire grade is based on exams, and she wants extremely specific answers to her test questions. She goes over the material so fast but all lectures were recorded so you can rewatch them whenever needed.
Honestly her slides and her lecturing for 1B isn't horrible. She does move fast and you definitely have to utilize the recordings because she moves quickly. However, if you go to her office hours and talk to her after lecture she's very dismissive and does not do a good job answering questions at all. Not approachable at all.
grade was determined by weekly section quizzes, two midterms, and a non-cumulative final with averages around 60-65. exams are insanely specific, the frqs are decent in that you can get half credit but the multiple choice section is impossible. go with another professor for this already difficult class
The most nit picky test questions ever. Her slides are poorly organized, hard to follow and she jumps around often. I learned more watching youtube lectures from other teachers than in her class. She is kind and passionate I will say that, but thats the only good thing about this class. 10/10 would not recommend or take again.
Primarily graded by exams, & practice tests give unrealistic expectations vs. what is actually given (watch out!). Midterms were doable through creating Quizlets of quiz questions, practice exam questions, lecture questions, etc. and studying it w/ somebody days before each exam. Make sure to really understand processes. Final was VERY difficult.
Average scores were 58% and 64% on midterms. I got a 70% and 75% and still got a C+ in the class so the curve is marginal. She only curves at the end of semester after all points are in so you never know what grade you actually have in the class. Just reads off lectures we have no idea what questions might be on exams so rely heavy on section.
this class made me miss the gen chem series, which i never thought i would. the tests are insanely difficult and off of the smallest details, rather than general concepts. i only started to pull my grade up after skipping lectures and entirely self studying by the textbook. there's a curve, but it isn't as generous as she advertises it to be tbh.
This course was extremely hard, it was impossible to get a high grade on the midterms and final because you have no idea about what she is going to test. The lectures are unorganized and barely helped your learning, most of the slides were copy and paste from the reading.
Low is lowkey funny, but the class was extremely out of pocket. Exams are extremely difficult/detailed and not like the quizzes at all. Do a lot of practice problems (use the textbook online problems and Quizlets). Read the textbook either before or after the lecture, and pay attention to both! Start studying a couple days before the exam.
Low is tough, but doable. Need to put in the work though, beyond the level of psych majors. Read parts of book that are not clear in class, start studying a week out, and write it all out until you can teach it someone else. It is memorization at minimum, and the rest all application. Know the stuff that seems irrelevant, it'll pop up on an exam.
She calculated my grade incorrectly by 80 points, which came out to about 20%. Every single one of her tests had an average of a failing grade. Her quizzes were nothing like her test questions (tests were 100 times more difficult)
The professor lacks the skills to effectively teach the material in a way that helps students learn and succeed in the course. Study often and thoroughly. To pass the course you need to go to office hours, rewatch lectures, use Quizlet, watch Youtube videos for further explanation, and most importantly READ THE BOOK!
Low has very specific tests and it's very difficult to do well on her exams without putting in the effort. You literally need to know everything that she goes over in lecture but sometimes it can be confusing. I don't think she's as bad as a lecturer as people say but to do well in the class, you need to put in A LOT OF EFFORT!! It is doable!!
pros: -professor: n/a -course itself: the material is informative and interesting cons: -professor lectures too fast and does not use the full allotted time of said lecture window -prep for exams provided is minimal and misleading, midterm/final exam practice tests are much easier and simplistic than the actual exams -class averages quite poor
No matter how hard you study, redo the practice tests, and review material, you will not pass midterms and final. Tests are very specific and what is tested is often random, specific. I even resorted to outside sources such as youtube videos and problems to study yet I still failed. I have never failed a class in my life until this one. Avoid her.
Horrible. Test questions are extremely difficult compared to the practice tests and quizzes.
Professor Low is hard. Passing is possible, only if you study, study, study! And study right. Her syllabus says to study from her slides, but you should read the book and use her slides as a guide. Tests are SUPER detailed and are usually specific details from the text. You should really focus on this class if you take it.
Low is brilliant, and nice and funny. But she cannot teach, make a good slideshow, or write a test. This is a hard class, and good luck studying for the horribly written tests with her horrible lecture slides. Luckily, she knows its hard and she curves the average of each test(the averages ranged from 50-60%) to a B-. Avoid this class if possible.
tests are so hard and insanely specific. She seems sweet and is funny sometimes ig, but she just reads off the lecture slides and doesn't contribute much to the lecture. online quizzes are easy iykwim but don't boost your grade at all.
Second time with Low. Overhated in my opinion but she still isn't great. Her lectures are extremely boring and dense, but they aren't in unintelligible. The problem is the MC section on exams, which is incredibly convoluted. Need to know everything she says, puts on slide, and digest the concept as well. Hard class overall with not a lot of prep.
Professor Low's class is manageable if you really put in the hard work and effort. I tried really hard for both midterms and received good scores, but it was not easy. She is a sweet person and I did find her lectures interesting (it's important to attend as many as possible). If you put the time in, you can succeed in this class!
Worst prof I've had here. Lectures disorganized/hard to follow, tests insanely specific/difficult no matter how you study. After MT1 I resorted to studying only from the textbook because it was far more helpful than any of her lectures. Unfriendly, acts like your questions are an inconvenience. Made this class WAY harder than it should have been.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Avoid at ALL costs. Professor Low is genuinely praying on the downfall of her students. Her lectures are completely copy and pasted from the textbook and she covers very surface level concepts but tests you on random/specific topics. Have a questions? Don't even bother trying to ask (she will either ignore you or flame you).
