shes very nice and gives you lots of chances, but a lot of little tasks
Professor Raven is just decent.; meh at best. She doesnt go above and beyond and just expects that her twice weekly online lectures will do the trick in regards to the midterm and final exam which they dont! Lots of very specific questions on concepts she barely touched over. The work its self is simply busy work and feels rather pointless.
Prof Raven's passion is reflected in her lectures. There is a lot of filler work and the tests are slightly more difficult than the rest of the material (the case for most classes). I managed a decent grade with minimal effort BECAUSE I've taken geology/environmental classes before. It's not a difficult class but you do have to put in the work!
Don't know why people say this class is easy but it is not at all. The materials are boring and tons of heavy readings. You need to do all the readings yourself since her lecture won't help with the lab/quizzes. Look for another easier GE class if you can.
Don't take her class if you are not required to. I've never taken a GE class that requires THAT MUCH of work. She wants you to basically read everything from the textbook to do the quizzes(which are really hard) and what she taught in class are NOT relevant to the quizzes. You will fail if you don't read.
Prof Raven is very passionate about her work, which makes this class so enjoyable. Fascinating curriculum, easy lectures, fairly simple weekly assignments, a midterm, and a final. No curveballs on any assignments/exams, and always accessible outside of class. Highly recommend!
Her passion is extremely inspirational! However, this is not an easy A and I suggest only taking her class if you genuinely have an interest in biology.
Appreciate her passion for the subject and the overall class was very interesting. Grading was flexible to accommodate students during this time. But the tests asked about a lot of very specific things so unless you take very detailed notes its going to be a struggle
Professor Raven is very vibrant and helpful. The contents are fairly easy, but her exams (30% of total ) are hard. However, 70% of the grade is almost free for students who do the work, so there are no immense pressure for exams. The lectures do not require mandatory attendance, which is catering for us during this difficult time.
She was very enthusiastic which is great, she also has a terrific podcast. Deadlines are very consistent but, is very understanding when students have other situations pop up.
Though the class itself was pretty boring, she is very passionate and I respect that. Most of the points are designed for you to get full credit but the large exams are pretty specific and difficult. She is super accommodating for covid and the TAs are chill. She also offers extra credit for midterm and final in the form of a cheat sheet!
She is super enthusiastic and knowledgable about her subject area. She seems very friendly and approachable. I found lectures to be a bit fast paced and dense but that may just be due to online learning. The material is definitely reinforced by textbook readings.
Prof raven was so passionate in her lectures, it made them really enjoyable to watch. I loved going to her office hours and talking with her because she is a really fun person to talk to. The amount of homework and difficulty of tests was reasonable. Probably spent about 4 hours a week on this class. A one hour section is mandatory a week.
I think she was probably more difficult in person, but online the class was very easy. Easy assignments and weekly quizzes and labs that you get 3 tries on. The midterm was a little difficult but other than that it was fine.
Idk what everyone else is on about- this class is not that hard especially if you just watch the lectures. The lectures are also fun to watch and if you have a question there are a million ways to get it answered. The midterm was also not that hard and the quizzes you get 3 attempts on so if you miss points, it's on you. Overall, great course!
Morgan was very accommodating, fair, and friendly, the entire quarter. She truly cares about her students and the class was really interesting. There are weekly quizzes and labs, but they were not too hard especially if you pay attention in class. The material can get confusing but she and the TAs were super helpful during those moments.
Professor Raven is the BEST! She is such a sweet and caring person, and she really took care of us in EARTH 4 given the COVID-19 circumstances. She makes the class fun and interesting, and she is really laid back. Do well on the weekly assignments! They help your grade so much. Overall Professor Raven has been one of the best professors I have had!
She makes you learn the stuff, unlike many professors. You dont have to get a pretty high grade on midterm or final to get an A as long as you do the other stuff well like weekly assignments , labs and posts which are easy. Pretty helpful outside the class. Wouldnt take it if I wasnt interested in the material.
This class was a challenge for me but professor raven is clearly passionate about the subject and she is very friendly and approachable. She wants everyone to do well. There is an extremely generous curve placed on the class. Tests were tough but not impossible to pass if you really dedicate yourself to studying. Learned so much, so glad I took it
This class was so bad. I know people who got 40s on the test and ended up passing the class because of the curve. I didnt put in much effort, so while I dont feel i can critique Ravens teaching, i shouldnt have passed then class but i did because of curve. Take this class PNP because its definitely easy to pass you just wont learn a thing.
Please just don't do this to yourself. Her tests are impossible no matter how much you study for them. Just wait for another professor before taking the class.
You'll be impressed by her ability to cram minor knowledge points into the tests.
Dr. Raven is considerate. She takes all the crashing students and chooses the penultimate version textbook. However, she makes the class so challenging. Her lack of teaching experience makes the class too vague to follow and her high expectation makes the tests challenging. If you want to take Earth4, take it with another professor.
Just... don't.
