Her lectures were so helpful and I enjoyed listening to them. She uses iclicker to take attendance but some lectures were not mandatory. Grading expectations were clear. She uses an online textbook that is really helpful with learning the material. No quizzes or midterms but a final coding project and a written final. Easy to get an A.
A genuinely sweet woman who has a strong passion for computer science. All the homework was through an online textbook, which consisted of labs. There were no midterms or quizzes, which may seem good, but it never really challenged me to keep up to date with studying. Got an F on the final, but that was mainly my fault since I didn't really study.
Prof Mirza is amazing. After taking this class, I actually enjoy CS. She made hard concepts easy to understand and her expectations for grading were clear. I think it was easy to get an A if you do all the assigned work and show up to lectures. Group project was cool too and TA's were great. Would definitely take again.
This was my first quarter at UCSB, and the professor and her TA staff did an amazing job. Prior to this class I had no experience in computer science, and did not enjoy it. Now I do enjoy computer science, thanks to this class. I highly recommend taking a course from this professor if you get the chance!
Extremely informative introductory Python class. If you do every assignment to reasonably, you will do well in this class. Class participation is unfortunately typically quite low, but she is nevertheless extremely caring and accommodating. Do not be scared if you have never coded before, this class is designed for you! Textbook is online.
Just show up to class, do the assignments, and give a decent presentation and you will pass. Pass/No Pass isn't a grade option here but since 118 is, participation is the only requirement for success. I liked Professor Chada's technical writing slide decks and I will be repurposing them for the rest of my time at UCSB.
I have my own personal issues with junior lab and the way our groups are determined but that is a story for another time. Professor Chada introduced office hours for lab report review this year, which was greatly appreciated. 180A is such an important class for the chemical engineering curriculum, and I think he did a good job with our class.
Took Prof. Belding's course in 2019 Spring. I have to say she is one of the best professors I met before. She has made the lecture material very interesting and well-organized, and she is also a super patient and supportive professor. Besides, she is a very big name in computer networks, but you can always find her in her office hours.
Prof Belding is one of the best lecturers I have had as a senior CS undergrad and it's obvious she cares about teaching the course. Lectures are structured in a way that makes it easy to understand new concepts and I recommend attending lectures as the content is pretty interesting. Tests are fair and follow the lectures and HW very closely.
Belding is a great lecturer and teaches complex material well. The assignments are fair and there are SO many extra credit opportunities offered (ex. attending section, watching videos, lab for grade bump on final). She wants you to succeed. I'm a senior and this was the first CS class that I found really interesting and engaging. Would recommend!
Professor Mirza is awesome. She explains concepts very well with analogies and shows us how to approach LeetCode questions on particular topics, which are very helpful for the midterm and final. The labs are super long and hard so don't procrastinate them. Practice lots of LeetCode for this class and understand how to approach the labs to do well.
Professor Belding is super nice and very accessible outside of class. Lectures can get a little boring, but I mostly enjoyed them. As long as you go to class and listen, it shouldn't be too difficult, though the last lab definitely took extra time. Gives lots of opportunities to ask questions in/out of class.
Professor Mirza's lectures are decent. She is clearly passionate about the topic, and grades a bit more generously than some other professors. However, it's worth mentioning that this course is extremely difficult, with challenging lab assignments and exams. Considerable effort is needed to obtain a good grade in this class.
Introduces Chem E concepts in a simple, understandable way. I adored this class. Biweekly homework (don't wait til last minute). and a final group project. No tests. Biweekly lab where you get to go through the process of making biodiesel. Guest speakers from Clorox. Overall, a great class. Always looked forward to lecture. Textbook not required.
Professor Mirza is one of the best teachers I have ever had, and definitely the best computer science teacher I have ever had. Her lectures and slides are amazing and taught me concepts that would normally take me hours to learn on my own. Her exams are quite difficult but she is generous with extra credit, same with labs/projects.
Everyone should take a class with Chada if they have the chance. He is incredibly caring, an amazing teacher, and an all around awesome guy. He makes learning difficult concepts not only simple but also incredibly engaging. And we got to do an awesome lab. Take his courses!
she is so nice. most csw8 classes follow the same format which were just zybooks, weekly quizzes, and a final project. you can tell she cares and is passionate about teaching the subject.
not a very good or nice professor. dont know if she is still employed but maybe, based on what she did to me, i should have gotten her fired when i had the chance.
Review #2 for Professor Chada! Separations was really interesting to me, and although I did poorly on the midterm, I think he understood that I felt my capabilities didn't match my test scores, and was very helpful and encouraging in the days leading up to the final. Be prepared to learn a lot of content in just 10 weeks.
Nice professors, very few HWs
INCREDIBLY hard labs where you have to implement so many data structures but... god it drills it into your head really well. Years later and I still remember all the data structures taught and use it in job interviews, so I have to hand it to Mirza. She is nice but tests+labs are REALLY difficult. Hw is easy textbook problems. START EARLY ON LABS.
Homework was hard, but fun. Concepts were definitely interesting and Mirza is the best at explaining. She the goat.
Do the homework, grading is normal, all the tests info are on slides, just study them, don't know why people don't like that, better than having no info on the slides. Provided a cheatsheet but cheatsheets are only good for studying. As long as you show up, which college students dont, easy A.
Online during the summer. The work was very doable and was always available for help during office hours. One short quiz every week with plenty of time to take it and online textbook assignment due every week on Sunday. Mandatory sections. Final is group project
