Not that bad, I feel like a lot of people on here underrate her.
Dr. Ravat's teaching style and the course content are manageable, but she is not the most easily accessible or considerate professor. She has a clear passion for data science, but her email policy is quite strict, and expresses a greater ego as the course progresses. Not bad, but if given the option I would prefer to take it with somebody else.
Professor Ravat was nice. She offered two easy extra credit opportunity & let us retake one of her quizzes. Although quizzes & final account for half of our grade, the other half is basically free points (hw & ws). My main critique is that I wish she had provided the answers to the final review sheet. Just do the worksheets and you should be fine!
Dr. Ravat was actually a pretty nice and caring professor, she has definitely improved a lot since some of these negative rate my prof reviews were written. Very fair grading and class structure. It was super cool that she taught SQL in this course as well. She also really seemed to care about her students and is very passionate about DS
Loved how she set up the course and the section and homeworks were very helpful for learning the material and doing well on the quizzes.
Overall great teacher and very nice!
Pretty bad lecturer, that said she has slides for each lecture, is a nice person and the class was pretty manageable, final and quizzes are all multiple choice so not a bad class, but lecture's aren't very helpful.
Dr. Ravat has improved her syllabus and lecture material since a lot of the negative reviews on this page. Section is mandatory and great practice for the quizzes. If you go to all lecture, and attend all sections, and do all assignments, final shouldn't be an issue. Her and her TAs are a hassle to reach over email, so go to office hours.
Good professor in the sense she is very passionate and kind if you go to her office hours. Class was graded very fairly.
Bad lecture. Exams are not the same as review and revision.
Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, I really enjoyed her PSTAT 10 class this quarter and thought she was a pretty good prof.
Ravat seemed very fair when I took PSTAT 10 with her. Very passionate about the material and encouraging of students to pursue data science careers. Not sure why she has so many bad reviews tbh, I felt that the final was very fair and the class is not super exam heavy in terms of grades. She presented the material very clearly on slides as well.
Good teacher who made concepts seem pretty easy.
She took over the second half of PSTAT 10 this winter quarter. I can see that she tried her best to improve her lectures and PPT slides. Questions in the final exam were similar to those in quizzes and homework. As long as you put effort into it, an A is not difficult.
She took over for Wainwright halfway through the quarter. Her notes were not that good and sometimes made me more confused (I could have made better slides). If you self-studied a little bit the class was fine.
Honestly I did not like this class with Ravat, she took over halfway through the quarter and the contrast was obvious. I was doing well in the class all quarter and suddenly got a C on the final after feeling confident on the entire practice test.
She is not that bad, deserves a 3.
I had her for the second half of the quarter for PSTAT10. Her teaching style helped me learn a lot and her slides were clear to understand. The only negative was that the final dropped my grade quite a bit. It wasn't particularly difficult, but I think since there weren't many questions, missing even a few would result in a B.
I was way above A before the final, dropping to A- after it. Professor Ravat is making questions in the way as if she is not intended to check your understanding on the course materials but just to make your grade worse.
She is as beautiful as an angel. She is so kind that it looks like she is sent to us by god. She inspired my logical methodology and enlightened my passion for statistics. Wading through beautiful programming materials provided, I was like a curious child exploring a mysterious but fancy castle. She is the best professor that I have ever met!
This professor is decent. I had her for the second half of PSTAT 10, and thought it was pretty good. I think she put a lot of effort into improving her slides from previous quarters (refer to scores below), and her explanations were pretty good. Multiple choice tests and quizzes for coding are always a bit annoying, but they were okay overall.
I was 93% before the final exam, but after the final, I got 73% in total. Super weird final, please avoid her!!!
She was inadequate at explaining ideas during lectures, and tried to control our collaboration on assignments when we were left confused afterwards. Her wording on quizzes/exams were tricky and I often didn't know what certain questions asked for. I knew I wasn't alone bc her class forum blew up w questions after a new topic was introduced.
I study pretty hard and am decent at coding before taking this class. But the setup of is ridiculous and you are graded on so few things, it feels like she doesn't want you to do well. It really shouldn't be this stressful. There were so many mistakes in hw and quizzes, and responses are so slow. Even announcements posted will have mistakes.
