He's a beautiful man inside and out. Makes physics really easy to understand and actually interesting. Go to class and make use of his practice tests! It's not too hard to get an A. His lectures were the highlight of my classes.
Freud does a lot of example problems in class. He doesn't really explain the theory behind concepts and doesnt define variables. He changes the problems on the test so they're different from examples in class, so really understand the examples. Don't just try to memorize them. Try to understand the why because that's what will get you the A.
By far the best physics professor I've had at UCSB. Very clear and gives a lot (relative to the other physics professors I've had) of example problems in class which greatly helped me on homework and exams.
Really the best physics prof
What will help you pass the class? Attend the lectures. The tests are identical to the problems that he does in class. If you review the material he posts and take good notes, you'll get a B easily. The effort you put in really makes a difference. He likes puns.
Best Physics professor at SB. The physics departments needs to make this guy a full-time professor and not jut the summer. He simplifies all the concepts so that bio majors like myself can actually understand and "enjoy" learning the topics
Great Professor. Definitely recommend taking any class he teaches. Tests are straight forward.
AWESOME
By far my favorite teacher. Really helped me learn. I'm going to try and have my mom meet him when she visits over break. What a catch.
Ernetst rocks but he probably shouldn't wear his purple shorts anymore.
His multiple choice tests were actually really hard and many of the questions were not worded as properly as they should have been. He also doesn't give enough space to work out the problems.
I absolutely love Freund! His tests are so hard but he is so sweet! He is the nicest and most caring professor on campus. Freund is extremely helpful and explains things well. He really cares about his students. I had him for physics 1 and 2 and he is just a really cool guy. his lectures are very entertaining...especially the bowling ball incident
If Professor Freund was a Peacock, he would have the most beautiful tail, but he would have a funny gobble cus that dood is goofy. YA FREUND WOOT WOOT WOOT.
Hottest Prof Ever. Doesnt matter that lectures are mandatory cause you'll want to go anyway, they're very interesting and u have a nice view. As much as i hate physics i think i would take this class again just to look at him. =]
Easy first midterm, impossible second midterm (48% average!), decent final. Freund is a hesitant teacher, but not too bad. I don't see why everyone else says he's "excellent" - he was okay. Not great, not bad. Didn't really prepare us for the stuff that was coming up on the test though. Overall pretty tough class. Lots of homework, too.
Hard midterms and easy final. His lectures were very useful and he did his best to make physics interesting. The textbook is HUGE.
Excellent prof! He is very nice and funny. He really wants you to learn and is great at getting concepts across. The class itself is hard as diamond though, so you better really be ready to study. Nonetheless, Fruend is an excellent prof who will make the class fun and helpful.
All the previous comments are very true. Prof. Freund is the man! I'm taking an 8am class (which is crazy for me) just to have him again.
Very clear in lecture and with his expectations. Nice and cool guy too, hes not too much older than us. Just realize the tests are going to be hard- 40% avgs sometimes- however this is at the demand of the physics dept and not Ernest.
really fun and cool professor!quarter started out with perfect difficulty, i was happy, doing well, aced first midterm, and actually learning physics.then all of a sudden the physics dept. jumped on his back and forced him to make the class harder cuz "its for engineering students".after this point the class started sucking.i learned less & did worse.
Very fun, friendly, and succeeds in sparking interest in the subject. The book is not very valuable, and mastering physics is even worse; (the worst excuse for instruction). Freund is one of the coolest professors I've had here.
Ernest is the best professor I have had from my 3 phyics classes taken here in UCSB. He explained concepts very clearly at a level in which the majority of the students in the class could comprehend. Avg.'s of 60%s were a lot better than the 40%s with Reese's classes.

Hottie! Made class totally fun, I actually like physics now.
