Lectures were so boring and not mandatory. Easy class if you can get through the lectures. Two essays made up the grade that weren't hard and if you meet with TA they'll give you feedback pretty much guaranteeing an A

David was overall pretty easy! There was a textbook, which he provided on Canvas. There are 3 essays total and I only read the parts of the textbook that pertained to my essay. He was always open to questions and made lectures interesting to listen.

Grade based on three take-home essays and section participation. Lectures were easy to follow, very understandable, and he was always open to questions & gave very thorough answers. His ability to answer every question thrown at him was impressive! Reading material was provided to students, but lectures did a great job explaining things. Attend OH!

Though attendance isn't mandatory, 100% go to lectures because all you need to know is clearly outlined each class. There are three take-home papers we wrote in total, the last one counting as our "final". The professor was very fair with his deadlines, so I never found myself too stressed. The lectures are relatively easy to follow, just attend.

lecture was not mandatory and pretty easy to follow but i suggest actually doing the reading since some of the material is difficult/complicated. i found the class really interesting though and overall really enjoyed it. also he looks and sounds exactly like noah kahan its freaky

interesting class, but way harder than advertised/expected. formal proofs make up a large portion of the class, and it almost seems more "coding/math-based" than philosophy-based. definitely not an easy GE

Great professor. If you have any questions about your grade he will always try to help you.

David was a great professor. Some of the material in the class is definitely tricky, but he's always very easy to get in contact with if you need help! Some parts of the class are easier than others, and he allows open note tests for his midterms and final exam, making it a lot less stressful. Definitely take his class if you have the opportunity!

Prof Mokriskis lectures are very clear and informative, but they can get repetitive, so if you have issues with sticking with a not-so-exciting topic for a quarter this probably isnt the class for you. Pay attention to proofs, because they make up most of the weight on the final.

I really like Professor Mokriski and how clearly he explained the material in lectures. His slides were well organized, and his examples were helpful and similar, if not exact, to exam/homework questions.

Overall David is a cool professor, but needlessly difficult. Every time I made the changes he suggested in my essays, he found something else to pick on. It seemed like I was never improving in his eyes despite going to office hours. He means well, but the class is a confidence downer. All I got was criticism, but saw no indication of progress.

Overall David is a cool professor, but needlessly difficult. Out of the three essays I wrote, each and every time I was under the impression it was better than the previous one. I had added the changes he suggested during office hours, but he always found something else to be the problem next time. The class is a confidence downer.

philosophy wasn't my favorite subject but I loved this class. The lectures were great, only required 3 essays they were very easy and clear. He does not provide a rubric though.

David is nice and very very knowledgable. He clearly knows what he's talking about and is definitely passionate about philosophy. The class itself was hard for me (philosophy can be challenging, especially for me) but not because of the professor. He's open minded, kind, and knowledgable.

a VERY NICE person and teacher. not sure if this class is for everyone but if you show passion in philosophy he really would try his best to help you. I sent him my outline for each paper each time before the due and he gave my detailed and LONG feedback everytime and he is really trying to help!!! one of the best profs i had in ucsb frrrr

David's lectures were long but informative. He isn't the most interesting lecturer but he is extremely knowledgeable. Class contained 3 take home papers which were graded pretty stringently. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you participate and attend most classes he will bump your grade. Overall I would recommend.

Very intelligent, caring, and overall an incredible human being. He is a great teacher that can captivate an audience, entertain concepts, and understands students very well. I highly recommend him

David is smart and clear minded. But although I understand all the things he taught in classes,I still cannot get a high score in exams. The homework is very easy but not the exams. Homework only takes 10% of the grade. And the first midterm takes 30% second midterm 20% final exam 40%. So its like all the exams determine your grade.

I was unaware of how math-y this was. Fortunately, even tho I'm usually bad at math I did fine. He makes it way harder than it needs to be, & you can tell he's smart but kind of a showoff. Go to section, do the practice exams, and attend most lectures and you'll be ok. I never read the textbook but he posts what you need on GS. Not an easy GE.

More of a math-y class than expected. 1 thing I will say, pay attention when it comes to proofs because although the final was cumulative, 40% of the weight was on proofs. To do the best you can, read the textbook before coming to class. I didn't follow these strands of advice and really screwed myself on the final. Overall, a straightforward class

The long short of it is that Mokriski is a smart guy. He knows what hes talking about and makes his lectures clear. The issue is this was supposed to be an undergrad course and used an almost identical curriculum to the 183 class I took. I would posit that this is not only unfair, but results in a large number of students dropping Phil as a major.

his midterms are hard, everything is based on a curve. he's clear during lecture and explaining. lectures do get boring and repetitive. not really helpful, wouldn't recommend.

PHIL 3 is fairly simple in that your midterms and final make up the majority of your grade. There are two midterms that are easy as long as you do the reading. There are weekly homework assignments but they only make up 8% of your grade so you can get by without completing them. Lectures are rather boring and repetitive but it's a worthwhile course

David explains things very clearly throughout lecture and is great at answering questions. Replies to emails super fast! (with clear and useful responses at that) Lectures go by fast but he gives a lot of examples so it's not too hard to keep up. Tests aren't too heavy and hw is not overbearing. Overall really enjoyed the class- he's a great guy!
