Math is boring but Peter makes it fun! He is very nice and humorous!

Very good professor I have to say. Very patient and explain all calculus well and clear. Practice problems are similar to test. Work hard and all will be fine.

Great guy. Tries his best to help his students. Makes material engaging. Pretty funny, as well.

He is nice and very approachable person but he goes through problems very quickly during lecture and it is hard to keep up or he skips steps entirely. I do not have a strong math background so during lectures I was often lost and confused.

Amazing professor, he somehow made math my favorite lecture. Can't go wrong with him.

Garfield is a great prof, highly reccommend. I hate math but Peter doesn't make it too bad.

He tries to keep the class interesting but speeds through a lot of topics. Definitely don't buy the book and it helped me a lot to do CLAS for it. You get a notecard on all three midterms and the final which is helpful

The tests are heavily weighted. Material is stupid easy. It's pre-calc until the 7th week when we do basic derivatives and stuff. I would recommend this class for the easy A. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He's the nicest person ever and always extends office hours. The reason I got an A+ was b/c of office hours.

Peter is very friendly and easy to talk to! His lectures can be very confusing and fast paced. I recommend going to CLAS! There are three midterms and a finalyou can use a flashcard. Overall, the class is not too difficult but there's not really a way of knowing your overall grade since nothing is posted, so beware of that!!

One of the few great professors in a math department that doesn't know how to teach. Extremely friendly! One downside was not much homework was assigned making it hard to tell if you knew the material. That might just be the course though. Midterm was very difficult, final was very easy.

Homework answers can all be found on Google or in the back of the textbook. He is very accessible outside of class and willing to help you with homework problems via email. Slides are detailed and well-prepared before class. Do the practice exams posted before the midterms/final and you should be fine. Allows a 3x5 notecard on all 3 midterms.

Peter is nice and seems to try hard to get students interested in the material, but he is not a good teacher. He doesn't teach, just just has problems on the screen for students to do and then goes on with his slides. Would not recommend as an intro to calc prof. Be ready to have to teach yourself the material!

Never taken any calculus in my life and this class was very doable. Didn't take much effort and he does good job interacting with the class and keeping lectures interesting.

Peter is a very nice professor. He's so funny and cute when he gave explanations to math problems lol. His lectures were all about fundamental concepts and problems so were his exams, so you can get an easy A if you work hard. Not a lot of homework, no i clicker. He also offered extra credit, which helped me get an A+. Love love this professor!

He was very nice and approachable, and held many office hours. Funny in class as well. The material was somewhat hard, and towards the end you have to really put in time to understand it or you will get lost. Homework isn't too bad, but sometimes he wouldn't post it for a week or two. Tests were average for the math department. He is a solid prof.

Peter is a very nice person who genuinely cares for his students. I sat in the front and he'd always try to make sure everybody in the class understood. However, this backfired because he could rarely make it through all of his lesson plan and often rushed the end. He's very knowledgeable but I think he's a very poor choice for an intro calc class.

First 2/3 of this class were not difficult for me and review for many, but when the newer/harder material hit Garfield's inadequacies as a lecturer showed. He would go VERY quickly with new material for 2-3 lectures, realize no one understood and then would try to summarize everything up to that point in 1 lecture. Not conducive to learning imo.

Although I can't vouch for his ability to teach intro calc, his 6B class was the easiest math class I've taken at UCSB. He's a great lecturer and an all around nice guy. He does an amazing job of breaking down some rather complicated math to make it easy to understand. If all else fails, he posts exam reviews that are exactly like his tests.

Best math professor on campus, if you attend lecture, it's easy to understand even the most complex topics, he's super friendly and you can tell her genuinely cares how you do in the class.

I don't know if Peter was the problem, or just the syllabus was difficult, but this class was very difficult for me. You have to pay very close attention in lecture, or you won't get the material. His lecture slides aren't very helpful, but he was very helpful in office hours. I stopped going to lecture, and solely benefited from his office hours.

Peter is pretty cool, but I wouldn't recommend him for Math 3A because he's not that good at teaching beginners calculus. Homework deadlines can be extended, and he's super flexible. You have to attend class, or you won't be able to catch up. I already understood concept of Calculus, but he made it even ore confusing than it had to be.

Peter is funny and seems to like working with students. However, he is terrible at teaching calculus to beginners. During lecture he spends more time roaming the lecture hall and talking than actually teaching and explaining the concepts. If you are new to calculus, then be prepared to struggle and learn on your own. Overall, a decent professor.

If you've never had calculus I would recommend going to class, otherwise if you're not new to it just look out for his homeworks and go to the quizzes and tests. He is rather funny but his lectures can get confusing if you're new to calc. He often extends due dates because he forgets to upload the homework a lot. He responds well and will help you.
