Prof Kennedy is an awesome guy! His lectures are really interesting and he has a great sense of humor. SUPER understanding and really does care about his students. Tests are reasonable if you attend the lectures. Most of the test content comes from lectures. Eli review assignment is easy points if you do all parts. 100% would recommend this class.
Kennedy is very caring about students and passionate about what he's teaching! The class was very easy (albeit a bit boring), slides/skimming the readings are enough for exams. Section attendance is mandatory though IIRC.
Incredible professor, super funny and very passionate. Super interesting lectures and I went to his office hours a bunch to just talk :) Exams were all open note and very easy! 10/10
The lectures get very boring, but the class is easy. It is based on one paper, a midterm, and a final which are both online. Sections for this class are very easy all you have to do is show up so that you can fill out an exit survey. Overall easy GE but boring
This class was easy & not super time-consuming! He streams the class over Zoom & posts recordings of all of the lectures. The 2 exams were both online. Prof was very understanding and empathetic to his students and life in general. There are also make-up assignments if you miss section. Also one paper that is worked on over the entire class.
Although Kennedy's lectures can be boring sometimes, you can tell he is an extremely passionate, respectful, mature, intelligent professor and he simply wants to educate students about his class. Ling70 in general was very easy and graded on very few things, so if you're looking for an easy GE, I would recommend this one.
Best prof ever! This is my second class with Kennedy and he's an angel. Structure of class is clear; weekly checkpoints, section participation, midterm & final are online and an essay which is peer reviewed. Material is super interesting too! If you keep up with work you are guaranteed an A. Very accommodating as he allows an asynchronous option.
Prof Kennedy is amazing. I got two extensions on my midterm because I had wifi issues. He extended the deadline with no questions asked. As for the assignments, one weekly checkpoint every friday that has unlimited tries. Generous curve for midterm. Overall an interesting and impactful class that had me think about my linguistic attitudes. Take it!
If I could rate professor Kennedy 10 stars I would. He is one of the most caring and understanding professors at UCSB. The weekly quizzes make up a big portion of your grade, but theyre quite easy. Final exam and midterms are not difficult if you attend lecture often. I loved the random memes he would include during lecture. 10/10 would recommend
first professor at UCSB that I have felt actually cared about their students. He is genuinely a nice guy, and clearly passionate and up to date on current topics. class is should be an easy A if you do your work, lectures are recorded.
Kennedy is one of my favorite professors I've had so far! His lectures are very interesting because he knows so much about the topics he teaches. The weekly checkpoints are super easy and are automatic grade boosters, and the midterm/final were also easy. There are 2 writing assignments that are peer reviewed and can be redone for a better grade.
Prof Kennedy is definitely one of the best professors Ive had so far! Hes extremely funny and very precise when explaining linguistic concepts. Weekly quizzes are basically a guaranteed 100%, the 2 writing assignments are peer reviewed, and tests are pretty easy.
This class was definitely an easy A. The midterm (during online learning) could be taken anywhere within a 12 hour period and not timed so there was no timed pressure. Weekly "quizzes" weren't really quizzes because you could attempt them as many times as you want to get the right answer. Not many ways you could fail this class.
Great lecturer even through Zoom format. Midterm and final were easy and had a large window to complete, questions mainly from lecture content as opposed to textbook.
Great lecture. Satisfying writing requirement by two 750 words paper graded by peers. Very worthy class.
Great lecture. Satisfying writing requirement by two 750 words paper graded by peers. Very worthy class.
Professor is very funny and nice guy. Always likes to make us laugh and check that the "vibes" are good. Lectures are interesting material but can sometimes get boring. Midterm more dependent on lecture rather than reading. It's a very mindful and socially aware class. I really enjoyed it and it's an easy A if you pay attention in lecture :)
I really like this professor, he gave an interesting perspective on linguistics and made it interesting even for those who aren't into linguistics. The class does get repetitive and is a lot like other LING classes. This is a very section-heavy class, but it was overall an easy A.
Def fav prof at UCSB. Kennedy is a genuine guy and is passionate about what he's teaching. The material itself isn't difficult; show up to lecture and take good notes and there's no reason you need to do any of the readings. Midterm and final are fair + straightforward (MC and free-response). Easy and fun group project + only 4-5 hw assignments.
Take this class for the easy A and WRT req! Super friendly and generous professor. Lectures sometimes dull but good content. No reading needed, just attend lecture and take good notes. Grade solely based on 3 short homework assignments, a group project, a midterm, and a final. Do well on homework assignments, and you'll get the A! Bob is the GOAT!
I'd take a class with Kennedy again, but mainly because it was so easy. Truthfully, I just didn't enjoy his lectures. It's a cool class, but it felt like we didn't start covering real world issues until the last 3 weeks. The first weeks mainly involved him complaining about trivial linguistics issues. He's a nice guy, but the class wasn't for me.
I came in thinking I wouldnt have to try at all and that was a mistake lol. Its not hard but you do have to put in some effort. Theres 4 assignments (40%), 1 midterm (20%), group project (20%), & final (20%). The group project was not that bad it was easy (if your group is cool).
He is one of the easiest teacher in UCSB. Only four super easy assignments for whole quarter and each only takes like an hour or two to finish. Plus, the instructions are clear so students can write it easily even they don't attend the class.
Professor Kennedy is one of the best lecturers I have came across so far! He is funny, he is passionate about the subject making it easier to stay focused. He is also an approachable guy! Very woke. I reeeeaaaally recommend this class!!!!
