Great teacher who clearly knows the stuff and is always making such an effort. The classes are interesting and sometimes even funny. His office hours were very helpful and interesting too and the assignments and midterms are easy. You'll get an A if you put a little effort in.
Ling 70 with Kennedy was the perfect GE to take. There's four super easy homework assignments and a group project that takes very little effort to complete. Don't buy the textbook--never cracked the book open and still got an A. The tests were really easy too. It wasn't the most exciting class but Kennedy's still a solid choice.
4 assignments throughout the quarter but not too bad. I realized pretty fast if you write more that might not be the top answer thats better than writing less and a better answer. Group project presented week before finals; however, super easy so dont sweat that. Just read slides he posts online and do study guide he gives out.
Prof. Kennedy is the definition of #woke. Although he tries to add in humor, his lectures are generally boring but I learned a lot. Ling70 was an easy A and a super easy class to fulfill the WRT GE. I attended all the lectures, did all my assignments on time, didn't do any of the readings and got an A.
I loved Professor Kennedy! He's hilarious, his lectures are interesting, and the class wasn't too hard either. I had a great experience in the class.
Super easy material, most of it is about analyzing linguistic cultural norms that we see every day. Don't do the reading, it's only supplemental. Honestly you don't even have to take notes, as he posts the lecture slides online every week. I showed up and put in minimal effort and finished with a solid A.
Ridiculously easy class. The main concepts that he lectures about are relatively interesting. You really appreciate classes like these when you're simultaneously taking more demanding classes. Reading is unnecessary, except for Chapter 1 of Lippi-Green. That chapter sets you up well for the rest of the quarter!
The class was interesting and actually fun to go to. Kennedy's lectures really made you stop and think about society and the way we think about language. The class was super easy. Midterm and Final were simple. The only thing I didn't like was the group project only because my group was lazy and didn't prepare much. Good class though.
Dr. Kennedy is the best! He's very passionate about all things linguistic. I know a lot of people dislike his lIng20 class as the subject matter is what is difficult, but Ling 70 is absolutely amazing! Not only as a GE but it is a class that shapes the way you think about language. The TAs are very helpful and think highly of the professor. TAKE IT
His class was SO easy. Here is how to pass w/ an A, go to lecture and take CLEAR & COHERENT notes, aim to get 100% on every homework assignment, and study your notes for your exams (don't do readings!). If you have questions, ask him, professor Kennedy is SO, SO nice!
Most definitely want to take his classes again. An awesome guy. Tests arent too difficult, his contents are all really interesting. He makes trailers for his classes. Super passioante about his stuff.
Easy class with simple themes. Don't really have to do the readings but definitely go to section and lecture. He uses the full lecture time and it can get a little repetitive. Group project is easy, and the tests are straight forward. Just need to study lecture notes. He's a likable and funny guy, plus he only wears Hawaiian shirts!
His lectures are a little dry because he is kind of monotone. The content is good and he cover everything in lecture so I never read. He also posts slides so attendance wasn't necessary. He does give short answer on tests so make sure to know examples of concepts.
I loved Dr. Kennedy! I did the readings and went to lecture but hardly studied and got a 100 on the midterm. The homework is easy and is graded easily if you just put in a decent effort. Term projects aren't hard. I also got a writing credit for this and you don't have to write a paper so thats cool. Finals harder than midterm but both are easy.
Lectures are very dull but tests are very easy. The section was the best part, I had an awesome TA and our group project was really fun. Somehow scored a writing credit for this class and the extent of the writing was a couple short answers on the final.
I put a lot of work into this class, but didn't mind because it is so interesting. Even the homework I found fun. You really have to do the reading, or you are done for. The tests were really tough and are 20 multiple choice questions and a written section where you apply the linguistic strategies the book teaches you. Only 20 multiple choice.
Nicest professor. Good lecture slides. You don't really need to listen in class, just write down everything on the slides. Barely any homework, readings are not at all necessary. Midterm and final were simple. There is a small group project at the end of the quarter but it's not bad
Loved this class and Dr. kennedy, he is the sweetest and most awesome guy. He makes the class really interesting and fun to learn about. Some lectures get dry, but then he'll show some funny memes and make it better. Go to class, go to section, you'll probably get an A. There are online readings, but they're super unnecessary.
Dr. Kennedy was GREAT. He was an entertaining lecturer and was easy to listen to. I loved his class, it inspired me to follow a Ling minor. I would recommend this class to everyone. AN amazing professor.
Easy Midterm, Hard Final, and Easy Group project. NO TEXTBOOK, just articles but dont read those because they are useless. All you need to know for the exams & project are in his clear lecture slides. They're clear but kind of out of order but its no biggie. Take him!! His cheesy jokes are ADORABLE
Kennedy has a monotone voice which makes it hard to concentrate in lecture, but he also has random spurts of funniness. The class is basically memorization of every slide, and he elaborates on key terms enough for you to understand core concepts. Somewhat boring, but very straight forward if you enjoy logical approaches to language.
I took this class to fulfill my Area D req and ended up getting a B. Going to every lecture is a must if you want to do well on the midterm and final and make sure you understand the main arguments! The stuff we learned in class was really interesting to me and changed my perspective on things. Also, Heather the TA is awesome.
This class isn't too bad. I always felt obligated to go to lecture, but I always ended up playing minesweeper. I put in as little effort as possible and ended up with a B-. Kennedy is a cool professor. The only challenging part of this course was satisfying your TA. Mine took points off for ridiculous reasons and had a fat stick up her anus.
this class is NOT as easy as it seems. they grade very hard!!!!
