I took this class because it was a major requirement but after taking this class, I don't even think imma make it in. Quizzes were doable but were nothing compared to the exam. I'm paying money to learn the material, not how the real world works. This class will make or break you.
Did not manage the transition to online class well at all. Lectures are double headers, one is recorded and goes over the textbook and the other one is an hour of him being completely off topic from the material. Class average was a 50% on the midterm, he wouldn't curve and its Monday of finals week and he only just now told us the date/time
Near end of the class and wouldn't recommend, or if you need 3A make sure rest of schedule is easy. As an example the average on midterm was less than 50 percent and no curve. Finals in 2 days, and haven't been told the time or platform it'll be on. Says he want to prepare you for real world, but you need good grades to get a job in the real world.
He pretends not to be mean but he is an extremely mean person! He gives midterm in a time range which is impossible to complete, never answer your question clearly and tells you to look it up in the syllubus. He expect you to be a professional experienced accountant like he think himself is and deal with real life problem. Worst professor ever!
Bob Anderson does not like to put in the work to make sure exams are graded fairly by using the excuse of the "real world" and computer "impartiality." He can not respond to emails without being condescending either.
Bob Anderson exceeded my standards of how bad a professor can be. He waste time with useless anecdotes during class, refuses to change grading error for quizzes that weigh 60%, neglects the different circumstances his students may be going through, and makes tests ridiculously different from the usual quizzes making it near impossible to finish.
He is an amazing professor. Harsh but fair. His lecture is clear and well-articulated. But the class by no means is easy, he'll make you work for your grade. Very quiz heavy rather than exam (class taken online during COVID 19 )
Econ 3a is supposed to be hard, and accounting as a subject might not be for everyone. But Bob's lectures were so engaging and you can tell he's so passionate about it that you can help but let it influence you. He's such a hilarious guy.
Great professor. PLSSSSS attend class, it is easy points bc he will ask random questions that only people who attend the class will know.
He REALLY deviates from the topics a lot, telling a lot of side stories. He doesnt show up during his office hour. He makes every attempt to lower your grade if you ask for regrade. The worst thing is that hes inevitable, as only he teaches 3A.
Bob is such a good prof. He's funny, blunt, and levels with students base level knowledge to help students understand concepts. If you pay attention to his lectures and supplement with the reading you can naturally learn and ace the exams. Im a first gen student and knew absolutely nothing going in but gained such an interest in accting bc of him.
Amazing lectures and definitely worth taking!
Great Professor that lectures well and explains what is needed for tests really well. The class is fair you just got to do better than other people in the class. Great teacher though. Highly recommend if taking Econ 3A
Bob is really mean. Do not request for re-grade because he would make all efforts to lower your grade. That's not fair.
Bob rocks. By far the best professor I've encountered thus far at UCSB. Yes the tests are hard and the curve sucks, but that's set by the Econ department, and Bob cares a lot about teaching you the material. Get into the Honors section if you can - it's a very eye-opening experience into the accounting world.
Bob is a good professor and the class is pretty straightforward, the only bad thing really is the curve. As long as you study the past exams and do plenty of practice problems you should be fine on the actual problems on the exams. However, you have to go to lectures because he throws in random facts that he will put on the exam to set the curve.
Bob is the man. Clear lectures and very helpful, sure the curve sucks but as long as you study and do all of the practice that is given to you, you can do well in this class. I thought this class was really interesting which i think made it easier for me. Get a good TA and study every week not just before the midterms and final.
Bob is the man. He is clear about what he'll test you on, and is very knowledgeable/experienced in the real world. Some people say he comes off strong/harsh, but that is because he truly cares about students and their learning. The pre-major curve sucks, but Bob sets it through the difficulty of exams so you should receive what your raw score is.
This class is hard- bob is a good professor but the class is very competitive and fast paced with a lot of independent extra work expected of you. That being said he is a fair guy and his form of extra credit is that he tests on random things he says in class that are irrelevant to the material e.g. his sons Halloween costume...
Econ 3A is by far the most interesting class in the Econ department that I have taken. Bob makes this class a lot more interesting and easy to learn because of the dense materials. He goes on a lot of tangents, but those random tangents somehow tie back to lecture?!?
Bob is the man. He teaches you what he thinks is the most important material, so make sure you go to class so you know what will be on the test. He also goes on tangents frequently, but pay attention because they usually have some relevance to the course/tests.
Bob was genuinely entertaining- I loved the stories he told in lecture. The class wasn't a breeze, but it was rewarding
Bob is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was unable to attend a week of class, and friends would joke, "You missed accounting?! WOW, you must be SO bummed," but I legitimately enjoyed his lectures, and I looked forward this class. Many thanks to Bob for allowing me to respond with a straight face that yes, I actually enjoy accounting.
Bob Anderson was a great professor. He shows a lot of interest when teaching and he tells the best and funniest stories. The class is not hard at all if you show up and take it seriously. Do NOT skip class. I understand that its hard to wake up for an 8am but he reveals random test questions and you can only get it right if you were in class.
