This professor was awesome and imo too nice. It's supposed to be an easy-A class, but I felt I personally didn't gain as much from the class as I could have. Respect the subject / be interested if you're taking this class!

I really liked prof Holmes! she was really sweet and cares about students grades. we have 3 outside performances (2 downtown 1 on campus) which were kinda annoying but they were pretty entertaining. we had maybe 3 online quizzes (one which is the final) fully open note and easy. very easy GE!

Dance 45 was an easy class but sometimes boring. Must attend three performances which were miserable but class has no homework other than 1 one-page essay analyzing one of the performances. Mandatory attendance based on iclicker but overall very easy class and highly recommend as a GE.

Class is an easy A and she knows it. No midterm or final, but you must attend 3 dance performances (and pay for them yourself) and write an essay about 1 of them. Attendance is done through iClicker which is geo-located to the room. Holmes is very particular about late work, but that typically isn't an issue as assignments can be finished quickly.

3 mandatory performances that you had to pay for ($60 total). iclicker questions every class and had geolocation so you have to go to class. No final but 3 quizzes that are all open note but VERY specific so take good notes on her lectures. She's very passionate but very strict and not accommodating to students that have conflicts with performances

didnt like was that absolutely ZERO late work was accepted and that you can't make up any work even tho its just a GE class... but the work is definitely doable and pretty easy. quizzes/"exams" open on the weekends which was so inconvenient, didnt understand why she made them open on fridays/saturdays. shes very passionate and a good lecturer tho

iclicker attendance and 3 mandatory dance performances in Downtown SB which were very annoying to have to attend (sometimes on friday or saturday nights). Otherwise class is very easy and extremely easy to do well in.

This class is an easy A for sure. It is participation based and there are mandatory performances but these are honestly not a big deal. iClicker is easy to work around and the opening and closing questions are fairly simple, although sometimes graders can nitpick (ChatGPT saved me here). Pop quizzes sometimes but lots of ec opportunities.

Very easy class. You have an opening + closing question (grader can sometimes be nitpicky), 3 exams (open note + online), and 3 performances (you must attend + pay for, was around $60 total). For one of the performances, you had to write a 1-page paper. I wish she touched on Latinx dances. You can tell she's passionate about dance.

Participation matters in this class as there is an iclicker and opening and closing questions for our participation (open for a certain time). She also made us go to dance performances (3) and write a paper on one of them. There are 3 quizzes based mainly on the slideshows, one being the final, and does pop quizzes but are very short and easy.

She was a little lost, considering it was her first quarter at UCSB but she did great. It is a very easy class and would recommend. You do have to attend 3 performances that you have to pay for yourself but it was fun.

3 quizzes (3rd one considered final), all were open note. Had to attend (and pay for!) 3 dance performances to attend outside of class (2 were downtown), though they were all enjoyable. Prof Holmes was really nice and reasonable. There were also opening and closing questions every lecture but they weren't difficult. Would definitely take again.

Don't get me wrong this professor is beyond amazing and she genuinely cares about her students but when it comes to exams I feel like she structures them weirdly to the point where I'm left very confused when it comes to some questions because they're worded so weirdly other than that she's amazing but I do wonder if the old professor was easier

Professor Holmes, is super sweet and caring, and she teaches Dance 45 extremely well; my only complaint would be the lack of speed for grading as several assignments aren't graded until like the last two weeks of class so you have to speculate about your grade in the class the whole time, but other than that the dance performances were really fun.

I loved DANCE45, it was super easy and fun! You had to attend 3 performances and only write one paper about one performance. Dr. Holmes is an amazing professor and i would definitely take a class taught by her again.

This course was very interesitng and a great way to get arts credit out of the way. I really enjoyed going to see performances, as they were manageble and were amazing experiences. There is no homework, but some test questions are based on in-lecture discussions. I had a really fun time in dance 45!

Extremely low grading efficiency. I didn't receive the midterm paper grade after Week 10. Tests are extremely complex and annoying. (watch videos) Questions make me overwhelmed. Many unnecessary strict rules for paper and extra credits. I don't know why she wants to make this introductory-level course difficult. I really regret choosing her course.

post the score very late; 3 required performances and one of them is right before the final week; make the final quiz long and hard

easy class, does require attendance through iclicker, and has opening/closing questions but otherwise not bad. the worst part is the 3 mandatory performances (you pay) and the quizzes that have some abstract/weird questions that weren't explained well in the lecture but everything is open note so it's not horrible.

Her communication wasn't the best. We would have pop quizzes in lecture. She asked us to pick a number between 1-10, we picked 7 and she then told us that would be the number of short answer questions on our final exam?? IClicker attendance, open and closing question, the closing question is locked until the last 5 mins of class.

I do not recommend taking any course with Professor Holmes. It seemed that Holmes put in as little effort as possible to teach, and actively tried to make learning harder for students. The course content is not difficult, however, and it was fairly easy to get an A. Grades are curved. Go to lecture/section and you'll do better than most.

I don't recommend taking PSTAT 8 with Holmes. Our grades were based on 3 midterms and 1 final. She would just read from her slides so attending lectures wasn't helpful. I recommend taking it with a different professor, as your grade is entirely based on the midterms and final, with only 10% of your grade coming from attendance in the TA section.

Took PSTAT10 with her over Fall quarter and was a terrible decision. She is a very nice lady, but the way the grading in the class was structured was very poor. The final was all MCQ and worth 50% of our grade. Final was completely different material than what she goes over in lecture. Worse class/grade I had so far at UCSB.

Very nice lady, but vast majority of the grade was the two midterms and the final. Midterms weren't bad. Final, while said to be cumulative, was mostly the last few lectures and much harder. She curved it so I ended up with a B- in the class but as the final was worth 50% it tanked my grade from an A to a C+ before the curve. Be ready to work.
