Very disorganized and Linz goes off on unrelated sexual tangents quite a bit. Only lectured for 45 minutes which was nice. See the TA regularly for help because Linz is all over the place. Tests are long & not as "straightforward" as he likes to claim. READ THE BOOK & don't listen to him if he tells you there aren't a lot of Qs from it - THERE ARE!
By far the worst professor I have ever had at UCSB. His lectures are unclear and scattered. He is impossible to reach, and never returns emails, and the midterm and final was a joke. He promised a study guide a week before the test and did not post it until the morning before. You have been warned.
The class was sort of disorganized, but the study guides given out by the TA made sure you got a B or higher on the exams. The exams were pretty straightforward, either you knew the information or not. The info is dry but I think that's because it was communication law.
Linz's spontaneity and lack of organization makes the class a drag. Lectures are boring as hell. His midterm was a wreck - a "study guide" of random terms was given out and he asked a lot of unrelated stuff on the test, screwing over everyone. 2 required Powerpoints with vague instructions are assigned - he changed one to a paper last minute, too!
113 could be an interesting course but unfortunately linz made me never again want to take a media class at ucsb--very unprofessional and unorganized. only likes to talk about sex and****ography in the media. teaches only from a liberal standpoint--brainwashing students instead of educating them. not worth your time.
Easy class, easy A, but if wanting to take a class of value and higher education, would not recommend it. Raunchy and degrading images shown during lecture w/o any discretion or discernment-Linz thought this was necessary and "educational" in teaching 113. Only taught from a liberal-minded perspective, never presented both sides of an issue.
Nice guy, but classes are sort of boring.
interesting class, grade based on three papers (5-7pgs), was supposed to be a 4th 10-12pg research paper that he dropped cause he was disorganized, papers are straightforward, hes nice and funny but not organized which can get frustrating, lots of****ographic material shown so stay away if easily offended
brilliant, involved, extremely difficult to grasp material but worth it...
Say no to Linz! He's horrid and goes on totally random tangents that have nothing to do with the class. Everything's on his powerpoint, and I mean everything (including the final). Oh, and he doesn't put up anything on eres like he promises. Avoid At All Costs!
Class was legit, didn't step into class until final, ended up getting a B+. Take this class... but don't go haah
He is a terrible liberal that will give you bad grades if you even hint at being a Bush supporter or even a conservative. I strongly recommend that you take this class if you voted for John Kerry because he does not teach, he complains like all the rest o
His class sucks! Super boring. Plus he is super super libral. Beware. He never responds to e-mails and feels that it is his duty to push his political opinions on his students.
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!
He's a cool guy, but he's lazy. You can't reach him through email. And I thought his class was pretty difficult. No one reads and then he gives you one 100 question exam. However, sometimes he might put the exam online - in that case, automatic A.
he's very hard to get a hold of outside the classroom, but his class is really awsome. he's a really smart and friendly guy and the material he covers in class is really interesting.
can I say LAZY LAZY LAZY LAZY
