Amazing woman and a true teacher! The best class I have taken as a chem major - you learn cool things, get INVALUABLE and RELEVANT experience with analytical instruments, and grow into a confident and capable scientist. Take this class if you want a good job and if you want to learn more about materials science and physical chemistry :)
I took an honors seminar class with her and I loved it. The class was super interesting and she was helpful outside of class as well. Each week she would show us different research opportunities that had opened up and help us with more than just what was taught in the class
Great professor, her class definitely helped me secure my first job out of college! 153 is a time commitment, but if you are serious about finding a good job out of college, her class is a MUST. she will teach you how to do interviews, work instruments, and essentially prepare you for the real world. Plus she has this kind of older-lady hotness.
I loved this professor, the accent takes a bit of time to get used to but i did decent on the first midterm second i did not but the final was fair and I studied enough to pass the class, she's helpful and doing the book problems and taking ten minutes to read the chapter before the lecture really helps
Read the book; attend lectures, do the practice exams- do whatever you can to succeed in this class and an "A" is EASILY within your grasp. She is an amazing professor and really loves teaching along with trying to instill a love of knowledge in her students. Great class, highly recommended professor.
She truly cares about the subject, her students, and the role she has in our learning. Hw=more of the same, more Aleks like 1A. Midterms+final are decent in difficulty. Probably just me, but although I felt I knew the material, I continually got ~75%s. Rather disappointing to feel like you did well and knew the material only to find u did meh.
Horrible professor. I asked her for help many times and she failed. She was disrespectful and rude when she talked to me outside of class. I would not recommend her even if she were the last chem professor on this earth. Any other professor would be a million times better than her.
She is so nice and just really wants her students to succeed. She doesn't curve any tests so you have to work hard for the grade you want, but if you do really well on the final she will weigh that more in your final grade.
I LOVE this prof. She is so helpful and really wants everyone to succeed. Go to her office hours, ask questions, share your concerns. She will genuinely help you. BTW her accent is not bad at all. She is so nice and funny! Take her!
she is the most helpful professor i have had. go to her with questions, ask questions in class, she knows her stuff and really wants her students to do well. she connects well with students and is always there to help. i recommend her highly. she has a sense of humor. love her
She was a very helpful professor! also wanted everyone to succeed and I believe this class was very helpful for the future and getting jobs! Very glad i took it! Was a time commitment but was useful and could see using the information learned in the future!
I love her! She's a great teacher and she genuinely wants every one of her students to succeed! She'll help you out as much as she can so you get an A
she is very nice and helpful. just make sure to go fast on the midterms because she does not give enough time but i would recommend her.
From someone who got a C in chem 1A and a B+ in chem 1b, Quyen was really helpful. She is always there if you have questions and will take time out of her personal life to meet with you. Her accent isn't even a big deal, she is VERY clear on what she wants and what will be on the tests. I RECOMMEND HER!
Nguyen is a great professor. I don't know why people are getting mad about her accent, it's not bad at all. She really cares about her class and wants to see her students do well. Don't get me wrong though, it's a tough course and you have to really earn the grade. Midterms are a little unpredictable, but use them to study for the final. CLAS too!
She is an excellent professor. She's a very gentle and caring lady that truly wants her students to excel. She goes all lengths to make sure you do ur best. She has somewhat of an accent, but you get used to it.exams are extremely fair & she even gives extra credit. By far the best prof. I've had so far. Take her if you can! You won't regret it.=]
She is so kind, willing to help and truly wants everyone to succeed in her class! Lectures are clear and she tells you what will be on the exam. She is a very good professor and I highly recommend her!
This teacher is amazing. She obviously cares deeply for her students, but she will also not put up with any BS. People who write that they cannot understand her are too busy making jokes about it to actually listen. My favorite teacher at UCSB so far.
Does not speak good English. Is not clear on class requirements, when she suggests something she really means its a graded assignment.
She's hard to understand but genuinely cares about students and wants you to do well. She probably taught me more about hard work than chemistry.
A fine, wonderful chem teacher. Difficult to understand, really had to focus to learn anything. Wants students to do well. Curves nicely. I would recommend her.
Best professor I have had so far! Very caring about her students! Tests are extremely fair..just do the practice problems that she GIVES you! Also her accent is not that bad..easy to get used to if you actually listen!
very heavy accent. expects students to study waayyyy too much.
Nguyen is an amazing professor, she holds her own review sessions prior to midterms and finals, tells you what to expect from them, and even goes over sample problems during lectures. She isn't very hard to understand and she even offers extra credit to students. She is willing to help with anything, and is a truly dedicated teacher. If you study a
