A horrible teacher on the most basic and fundamental levels. I went to the first two lectures and decided I would be better off for the rest of the quarter avoiding being in the same room as him all together. ECON 5 is a class that you can 100% teach yourself online and get an easy A in the class if you end up getting stuck with Hartman like I did.

Super test-heavy, grading isn't too bad, but she barely teaches anything in class; it's expected to watch her supplement videos on your own time. Too many assignments for a GE.

Hartman's lecturing abilities are nonexistent, there was an inverse relationship between the time I spent in lecture and my understanding of the class. I genuinely think i would have more confidence if i had never attended a lecture. John Hartman should never again be allowed to lecture on economics, he nearly ended my interest in the topic.

AVOID TAKING HER CLASS AT ALL COSTS. She's the laziest prof that I've ever had yet makes her course so hard. Theres two midterms and a final, The class average for the first midterm was a 66%. No curve. She's not a good teacher and you'll end up teaching yourself 90% of the class. She "teaches" the sections herself so it's hard to get to know TA's.

Bedard took Econ 9 way too seriously. made an intro to Econ class extremely difficult and test heavy for no reason. mandatory attendance and was disrespectful and rude when i tried to ask questions. like made me feel dumb for asking. would not recommend taking this course if you dont have to.

I love you Kelly Bedard best professor ever! Light workload, very clear expectations, shows you exactly how she will grade each midterm, good lecturer, and has a study session for each test too. She also comes to our sections and will walk around and help guide you through worksheets. Highly highly recommend idk why there's a couple bad reviews

Nothing much to say about the professor. She explains the slides in class, with occasional examples, but remains mostly theoretical. She writes too small on the board if you're in the back of the class. Class was hard but only because there were so few questions on the tests. It wasn't that difficult overall. Study well and you'll be in good shape.

During lecture she hardly gives examples, it's very basic, reading off the slides. You're teaching yourself in a way but still make sure to attend all lectures and sit in the front. I took her during summer, we had lecture quizzes every week, 2 midterms and 1 final. No calculators/cheat sheets/or scratch paper during exams

she is one of those professors who doesn't care about you or your grade and there's a reason they had her stop teaching this class almost a decade ago. not sure y she is back but i rlly hope for future econ majors she's gone by next yr again

heartless prof. my best friend spent a week in the hospital and died at the end of the quarter and he refused to excuse the lecture quizzes i missed while i was in the hospital with her. also i completed the excel project due the day she was taken off life support but the autograder didnt work and he still refused help me or manually grade it

Lectures are pretty much useless except for the mandatory one. Professor Hartman is a lazy instructor. All the dude does in the videos is read off the slides and tries to talk slowly to pretend he is explaining it at a deeper level. At least the TA's videos are a little bit better but get ready to pretty much teach yourself the entire course.

Class isn't too difficult except for the fact that you have to teach it to yourself! Online lectures are so pointless, Hartman doesn't even teach. Final was hard. Don't skip the midterm even though it's only 10%!!

Awful professor. This class will not teach you everything. You're going to have to learn everything on your own. If you can avoid him, please do!

This class is one of the easiest at UCSB. I had four exams, one of which was dropped.... all other assignments had unlimited attempts which pretty much guarantee 100% for that part of your grade. Study a decent bit and the exams are not too difficult. Only downside was mandatory iClicker questions in lecture.

The exams in this class are tough, but if you put in the work, you'll be fine. The professor is strict on attendance, but the textbook and resources like Unstuck AI can really help with studying. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.

Get ready to learn everything on your own; I bought the smart work practice questions. That being said, it is just statistics...nothing more and nothing less.

Econ 5, Hartman only appeared in online videos, but oml, I cannot stand the guy. He reads off slides word for word and switches up his tone of voice so that it sounds like he is adding remotely anything of value, while sounding condescending and unintelligent. He sticks his tongue out every 2 seconds. I could go forever but there is a char limit...

Genuinely worst professor I've ever had and I'm writing this with an A in the class. All he does is post lecture videos of himself reading slides. He doesn't teach. Besides for his review lectures which aren't frequent where he is still terrible at explaining anything. He should be getting paid as a TA for the amount of work he puts into our class.

One of the worst professors I have ever had. I took AP Stats in high school and the way he explains topics makes even the most simplistic ones confusing. I had him for section, and he constantly spoke down to students, belittling and discouraging them. Teaching yourself the material and doing the practice tests is the best way to do well.

Super easy class until the impossible final that's worth 35% of your grade. If it's Hartman do not take
