There's a reason why she has a 5/5. Take her!!!!!
Literally the best prof I've had at UCSB. weekly quizzes on readings, 2 essays and 1 final op ed. She dropped 2 quizzes which helped me a lot. She is so real and I appreciate her openness with the material. Lots of respect for her.
Dr. Tober was definitely one of my favorite professors that I've had at UCSB thus far. Her lectures were relevant, engaging, funny, personable, and extremely informative. I actually looked forward to going to her lectures and hearing what she had to say each week. Highly recommend and hoping to take more of her classes in the future!!
She is an angel!!!! She is passionate about what she teaches and the sweetest. 2 short essays and a book review but not hard at all!! I love her and her TA is super sweet and helpful as well! Definitely taking more classes w her! 12/10 recommend!
A bit disorganized (often changes dates) but overall a good teacher. The content of the course is engaging and she is a pretty good lecturer. Read the book for the quizzes, go to class, and get feedback on your papers before turning them in!
Professor Tober is definitely one of the best professors I've had in my entire 4 years of undergrad. She speaks very clearly and her lectures are always super interesting and insightful. She makes things very easy to understand, would definitely recommend her to anyone at UCSB! Not a super easy A but if you go to class you'll pass no problem
Dr. Tober is the best SOC professor I've had here at UCSB! Her lectures are awesome, so much so, that class time flies by. She's got a sarcastic sense of humor, which I loved. She does takes weekly attendance, one reading quiz per week which are pretty easy. Readings are manageable, 2 short papers, a book review, & take-home final. She's the BEST!
Dr. Tober is an amazing professor and you can tell she is passionate about her teachings through her lectures. Always making jokes at the expense of her kids, keeps it light and breezy during class but takes attendance everyday. Two easy papers, one book review, and take-home final, TA grades everything. Would definitely take again!
she is the best! class was not difficult at all. Theres two short papers (3-5 pages), one book review(midterm), and the final was a 3-5 page paper. She checks attendance. Also, there are online quizzes on reading but not difficult to pass them! Highly recommend her!
Probably the most passionate professor I've had in a while. Wish she was a little clearer on certain topics in content analysis (finding your research question and literature review), but giving us a content analysis research project on a subject of our choice was really fun. Quizzes were a little tedious but read and you'll be fine.
I love Professor Tober!! I have her for Soc108C and Soc185C this quarter. She has made me never want to skip a class and I stay engaged through content heavy lectures because of the way she presents it! Her classes have truly reignited my passion for sociology and research Grading can be hard but if you study and attend class your fine.
easy, a few papers and midterm and final. if you pay attention in lecture and do the readings your good
I love Tara! SOC 146 Collective Memory was a great class and quite interesting. We haven't gotten our grades back yet, but I am projected to get an A. Easy, short readings. Group assignments at least once a week in class. 2 papers that were very manageable and an in-person final.
Loved Tober! Material was not boring at all and I always found the lectures entertaining. I got an A in the class - it was quite easy, we had a good TA too. This was one of the only classes that I enjoyed the reading for!!!
3rd time taking her. She's great! Sometimes she would have classwork to submit, but you should just attend class to receive credit. Quizzes were confusing sometimes, but overall was fine. Group project at the end of the year where we had to organize our own social movement and include class concepts. Def a more lenient and caring professor!
SOC1 with Dr. Tober is EXTREMELY easy. I skipped more than half of the lectures and got an A, because the lecture slides are posted online and are nearly identical to the textbook. On top of that, the content itself is not difficult at all, and mostly common sense. Dr. Tober's lectures were very easy to understand and very very slow paced.
TAKE SOC 1! I absolutely loved Dr. Tober's class. What I loved most about the class were her lectures. She knows her material so well -- I felt like I was watching a TedTalk. The assignments are straightforward. If you engage, it's absolutely achievable to get an A.
Tober wasn't horrible, but not the best. Lectures were sometimes interesting, but mainly just her rambling. Textbook reading ~40 pages per week and a quiz, midterm exam, paper, and a final. I studied pretty hard for the exams but she words things in a confusing manner. She also doesn't round grades
Pretty interesting lectures, easy to listen to, and the content's very easy to understand. Study lecture slides for the midterm and final. Chill class!
Lectures are somewhat interesting, although she tends to ramble. Easy workload: weekly reading and quizzes (online), one paper, one midterm, and a final. The midterm was full of past quiz questions but the final was a weird curveball. Anyway doesn't require any studying or much effort.
Dr. Tober is amazing I hope to have her again in a future class. Lectures felt unnecessary at times since she only emphasized weekly reading material, but I enjoyed them. Weekly quizzes and readings were simple, be on top of your one paper and you'll be fine. Take studying for midterm and final seriously since they way a ton in grade book!!
I didn't really go to lecture because most of it is a repeat of the textbook (section is too, but that's mandatory) and sometimes she gets into stories so long that you can't get through the lesson. Weekly reading quizzes, one midterm, one paper, and the final. The content is interesting and not difficult to understand. Overall very easy GE
You don't need to attend lectures, however, she does pull some info from the slides to put in the midterm and final! Lectures felt pointless and boring. Section is mandatory and had repeat information of the textbook. To succeed in the class, you gotta read the chapters and take notes. There are reading quizzes online that are easy. Easy GE overall
Lectures were interesting, Tober is conversational, material isn't too difficult. Decent amount of rendering, weekly quizzes based on it, one short essay. One midterm and final which are a lot like the quizzes, helps if you study. Overall a pretty easy class and Tober is nice.
