Professor Roberts was great. He's really excited about what he's teaching and he demands attention during lectures. The guidelines for the midterm are really clear and he's always there for help. As long as you actually do the readings and pay attention to lecture, you will pass. Professor Roberts is an engaging lecturer because he's so passionate.
He is extremely passionate about Japan so its a plus that he really puts emotion in his lectures. I really would like to take one of his classes. It was his first time teaching history 8 and he did a great job. No midterm and final but HW which is 50% and also a final paper due around 5 pages on a person from Japan.
Well, I like him for the lectures and the materials, including both the primary and secondary readings, (though sometimes they could be a little bit overwhelming); there are two papers and two exams in the class, all of which were not that hard if you DO THE READINGS and GO TO THE LECTURES.
The class can be difficult at times, as there is so much material to know. But, if you ask him questions or go to his office hours he is more than happy to help.
The class was relatively easy and interesting. Professor Roberts is a great lecturer, he's clearly passionate about the topic and is very good at explaining things.
Really enthusiastic lecturer, and very passionate about Japanese History. His exams are easy if you do the study sheet and stay consistent with lectures and readings. Easy to slack off in, but also easy to pass. Highly recommend.
Hard and inconsistent grader. Poor quality.
Professor Roberts is a cool guy. He always has a smile on and is passionate about his work. Would definitely recommend if you are interested in Japanese culture and history. He knows a ton. Work isn't so bad. Just listen to his instructions and you will do well.
made the material interesting.... not a hard class
I resent any one who would say that Roberts' class is not good. It was such an amazing, interesting, and challenging class! He's so passionate about Japanese history! And he's just so freaking cool: he's the only professor I know of that will show up to every class with pink converse. I would definitely recommend the class to any one.
if you like professors that ask extremely vague questions that have various possible answers but marks you wrong on your valid answer because it wasnt the answer he was looking for in particularly, then by all means choose him to be your professor. thats all i have to say.
This class is extremely interesting and Roberts really cares about what he's teaching about. He also is extremely helpful if you need any help w/ your papers he's always willing to give feedback. I recommend this class, not to hard as long as you do your reading, and interesting as hell! Loves this course, I had Ziomek as a TA and she's AMAZING
His Japanese history courses, both lower and upper division, are immensely interesting if you are into Japanese history. Definatly take his Edo Era course, as it is the most underrated history course in the department.
I thought the class would be interesting....it was boring. section was boring. Papers weren't that bad. He gives out study guides for exams that are pretty much identical tothe test so make sure u do them. if you're interested in subject and pay attention/read material you should be fine.....if you dont then you might struggle.i hated this class
Very nice guy. You will dive very deep into Jap Hist and it might be hard to keep up. Midterm and final are not bad, but lectures are confusing.
Nice guy and helpful. Only problem is the subject is really specific. If your not a Jap His major, don't take this class.
He is way to into Japanese history, there is to much to grasp in the short amount of time that you have
great class. helpful ta, 2 essays 1 midterm and a final. easy grader
smaller class- typical history course, fun art slides in class, but Roberts can mumble.
