Prof. Ninh is awesome. She is one of my favorites teacher here at UCSB. She isnt one of those lame teachers who assigns boring books but assigns books that she knows students will get a kick out of reading. She is extremely intelligent and very objective. She does speak fast but she is very will and helpful to students who meet her in OHs.
Teacher talks super fast and the reading is kind of heavy. Really helpful office hours and is super easy on the eyes
She is so nice in office hours and the class introduces some cool concepts and the books are not bad to read at all. Visit her in office hours because she talks to fast.
She is so nice and helpful in office hours. Although she has a tendency to speak way to fast she is happy to clarify and she has some really interesting ideas.
Weekly discussion posts and journal entry assignments. A lot of assigned reading but I got by just by attending class. Two lectures with alternative healing methods which is what another post on here mentioned with the maracas lol. Out of my comfort zone, but an enjoyable experience if you have an open mind. No exams, just a final project
This is not a class, it is a therapy circle. From shaking a maraca for 2 hours to being reprimanded for stating opinions and trying my hardest, this class made me ask myself the question: What am I playing this high of a tuition for?
Little guidance was given on assignments, and lectures were unnecessarily overcomplicated and confusing. Prof Nihn is passionate and kind, and I'd highly recommend going to her office hours. However, I often felt like she lacked the ability to explain things in a straightforward way, especially in class. Overall would not recommend for a GE.
I loved Professor Ninh so much, her lectures were so interesting and the material we covered was so cool. She was a tough grader on the close reading assignments but left great feedback on how to improve your work. Definitely do the readings and participate in class, it will make the course 100x better.
Class is based on multiple assignments around 500 words in length and participation. Some of the assignments have harder than expected prompts for this type of class but they're doable and the professor is pretty great.
Prof Ninh is one of the best professors I have had at UCSB. She truly cares about her students, is knowledgable and helpful, and just a joy to be around. Every week, I left class feeling empowered, like a learned something new about myself and others. She gives personalized and helpful feedback on assignments, so that you can actually improve!
Prof Ninh challenged my world views and writing skills and I'm grateful I took this class. Most people took the class p/np bc she grades very particularly. If you participate (in lecture and/or OH), her classes will be very enriching, otherwise they will be a lot of work with little reward. Definitely recommend
Prof Ninh is amazing, caring, knowledgeable :) Every reading was incredible, powerful... I'm an Asian-American woman, this class meant everything to me! But really anyone would benefit from taking this class. She will give you a good grade if you show that you care!! Because she really just cares about teaching us well not just about grades.
Professor Ninh is amazing!!! Took upper div ASAM classes this quarter for the first time after officialising my double major in ASAM, and professor ninh was an absolute sweetheart!!! She is super super passionate about everything and was lenient about deadlines/revising. would def take her classes again!!
I was originally intimidated by Prof Ninh but after getting into the class, that all went away. Super fun to talk to in office hours and has super lenient policies - soft deadlines, unlimited revisions that she can help you with and gives endless support. She grades a bit tough, but she and the class are so amazing! Would recommend ANYONE take her!
Okay so I took this course as a GE and damn she is the worst! She's sweet and all, but she is incredibly disorganized with her lectures and work. I spend more time trying to figure out what her prompts are trying to say than actually doing the readings! This is my first ever professor review, it had to be done
need to read five books and write 5 essays
This class wasn't what I expected. She is a difficult grader. I enjoyed the subject, but I wouldn't want to take another class with her because of her grading.
Professor Ninh is AMAZING. She cares so much for her students and really tries to help as much as possible. I started with a C on the first paper, and then went to office hours every Monday and ended with a B+ due to her help. You really have to understand the material to get a good grade.
Professor Ninh is amazing. Her enthusiasm and positive energy are not only inspiring, but she literally put me in a better mood every class. The texts were interesting, but not too long like many other classes. She truly cares about her students and her teaching, and she is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. Highly recommend.
Class isn't too difficult, but has lots of writing. Professor is clear with her lectures and has obvious themes she wants you to understand. No midterm or final, just papers.
She is a really good teacher but sometime class is boring. I recommended to read the 4 assigned books becase the midterm and final will be a comparison between two books for the midterm and final. Go to Office hours really helpful. Overall is good!
There was a lot of writing, but they weren't that difficult. In total she said it was about 27 total pages. I don't think she grades that hard. On all my papers I got As and Bs and an A- in the class. (I'm not the greatest writer either) Theres only a reader for the class. Be prepared to read. There are HW quizzes & assignments occasionally
I liked the books that she chose, but that's probably it. She rarely gives Ds and Fs, but to get an A or B is unattainable. Her lectures are unorganized and often times the connections she makes are not relevant. She uses "big" words, but she uses a lot of them wrong. The way she dresses is also pretty distracting. Someone should really teach her.
I had never thought about the topics covered until I took this class. It's very interesting. Prof Ninh makes class discussions thought provoking& although attendance isn't manditory, I always went because I enjoyed listening to the discussions. This class is an easy A with no formal type of test, just 3 easy papers and a group project.
