I never knew what was going on in class. They didn't explain why we needed to know this concept or anything, we were just thrown equations and graphs without any explanation. Midterm was so easy it was actually comical, it was verbatim the weekly problem sets we had to do. They seemed nice, and idk if it was the class, but they cant teach.
Take her if you get the chance!! She is so awesome and probably my favorite teacher so far at UCSB. So caring, passionate, and engaging. Her lectures are far from boring and she makes the class totally reasonable. I adore her and miss her already!!!
Work is very easy to complete and you will get a good score if you follow the criteria and engage thoughtfully.
Dr. Shay is the best professor I have ever had. She really is there for the students. Over all she makes it very clear that your mental and physical health come before school in her class. She wants you to thrive and grow in her class which you cannot do when your hierarchy of needs are not met. Exceptions in class are clear.
So nice and awesome. Obviously really cares about her students and loves teaching. Tries to make content as engaging as possible and is very understanding. Lectures were super interesting as well and clear what you need to know. Literally my goat.
Inspiring, caring, and funny. All professors should be like her, take her class!!!!
Shay's content was a little harder/more disorganized than James' in EEMB3, but she was still a very good prof. She genuinely cares about students. Her exams are a little harder than James', but they're still really easy. Our class was a little confusing, especially with big and small bio merging, but Shay did her best to accommodate everyone.
so accessible, so knowledgeable, literally the sweetest lady ever. you can just tell from the way she lectures that she really cares about the subject matter and her students. only critique is that her class is a little disorganized but she is more than willing to work with you to make up for this. highly, recommend. you are awesome prof shay!
Amazing professor, would recommend. Also had her for EEMB 3 and she was great!
Prof. Shay is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is passionate about the subject she teaches and is obviously dedicated to the success, and most importantly, the education of her students. Very nice professor and offers understandable leeway due to circumstance. Highly recommend. I myself learned a lot and enjoyed doing so.
I was waitlisted for this class. Dr. Shay is the reason why I was able to get off the waitlist. She went straight to the department for a whole week trying to allow more students to take her class. She is truly amazing. Quizzes every week (relatively easy), sections were so much fun, and two essays. One of the easiest EEMB courses at UCSB.
The lecture is beautiful with lots of images. She is nice and friendly, and willing to help them. She created many activities in discussion sections, and They are funny. I attended this course without pressure. 5 online quizzes and no exam. Questions are not easy because she trained your critical thinking. Highly recommend taking her courses.
One of the best professors on campus presence wise. She is very enthusiastic about her topics and is very kind/caring. It's fun to go to lecture there's a lot of active learning and talking to people around you. Teaches in a very straightforward way, making it so much less stressful. The general outline of what she's teaching is very clear!
highly highly recommended. She is amazing and very approachable.
Prof. Proulx did a great job teaching Animal Behavior, I liked the video examples he shared. The course was a little more math heavy/ economics based than I expected, lots of graphs, equations, economic analysis but it's not difficult math. He does a great job with explaining lectures thoroughly and is available outside of class for help.
This Professor was the most amazing EEMB professor I've ever had. Really need to be on top of the work in the beginning cause everything builds on each other. Go to office hours. Super nice guy!
