Pretty easy class. Have to participate in section, do a few writing assignments, and you're good.
Professor Sorkin is a good professor. The class material was very interesting and we covered many artists in the course, especially women and people of color. I appreciated how helpful section was and the midterm and final were adequate, not too crazy. She is not the friendliest professor, but she was available for office hours.
sorkin's attitude and teaching style make online classes with her a tire. can't imagine taking a class in person with her.
She hardly smiles. Too efficient to the point where she talks accusingly and has no patience. She gets a lot of things wrong in class and its hard to learn well. Little respect will be shown to you if you take her class
Professor Sorkin is very biased in her presentation of the course material, and while she tries to be "woke" she is not sensitive to delicate material and never puts content warnings when discussing these subjects. The majority of the course was non-objective, based on her personal opinions, and she was not interested in any other points of view.
dont take her class. worst professor Ive ever had.
This professor is one of the most amazing, interesting, and caring professor I have taken!! These ratings are probably done by students who put little to no time into this class and still expected a solid A. If you want an easy but exciting class to take you wont regret getting this professor. Im a bio major and enjoyed this class. Take it
She was alright. Tests were very easy. Her lectures were a little disorganized occasionally which was frustrating. She seemed caring and willing to help. There were some pretty long readings, but only a couple of questions per test were from them.
I learned far more from my excellent TA Colin than I did from the professor's lectures. They are rarely interesting and she forces you to attend by making attendance 10% of the grade. My biggest qualm was her tendency to stray across disciplines and consistently get the science and even history that she was teaching completely wrong.
Professor Sorkin was hilarious! She gave very interesting lectures with information you can use outside the class. 3 short papers, midterm, final, iclicker. At the beginning of each test she said if you attended lecture youll probably get an A. I would definitely take this class.
Jenni is my favorite professor I have had this far at UCSB. She is extremely insightful in her lectures and makes art history really exciting to learn about. Overall a pretty easy class as long as you go to class. Only 3 short papers, easy midterm and final, and iclicker.
I highly recommend taking this class with Prof. Sorkin. She made the material easy to understand and very interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to lecture as most of the material tested in the class are from her lectures (3 small paper, midterm, final) She made every lecture very fun! Class is an easy A if you pay attention and go to class
Really easy class if you just show up and take simple notes. No textbook, just readings that she posts online, but even those aren't too difficult. She calls you out if you fall asleep so just don't do that
Before this class I found no interest in art & didn't really understand it. Prof. Sorkin really made this class interesting and relevant to our world today. I loved how passionate she was about it and how she lectured. If you have respect for art and are interested in modern day issues in our culture its a great course.
Take this course with Jenni! She gives amazing lectures and all test materials come straight from the slides. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go and sit through the lecture while taking good notes you probably won't even have to study. Just listen and asks questions. Midterm and final are easy.
Take 6C if she is the Prof. no books, only pdfs with three very small writing assignments. If you go to lecture and actually listen you can easily get an A. She has a good sense of humor and organizes lectures very well.
If you are a student who values communication with professors, don't take her class. She is unapproachable, rude, passive aggressive and impatient. Additionally, any time I participated in class discussions or express an opinion I had about an art piece or text, she would take my words completely out of context and assume that I was bigoted.
I found her energy very comfortable & likable. She interacted with the class a lot and gave great lectures, although sometimes felt unnecessary. Did a total of 5 papers including a group project slide show toward the end of the course. She's very keen on attendance and not leaving early. Came off strict at times. Learned more through section.
The lectures are terrible. They are just photos of art pieces that don't need to be shown. I learned more in the section than in the lectures.
Long lectures that do not relate much to the essays or group projects. So many tangents that are unrelated to the subject matter. However, if you're more than okay at essays I would take this class because that's all the grades are based on.
Easy class !! Outside of a handful of papers, your workload is next to nothing. Her slides are not easy to follow, but she's a great speaker so I highly recommend you attend lectures !! Group project was easy enough and not too time consuming.
Ultrawoke professor- her lectures are filled with her biased opinions on various subjects, as she rarely tries to be objective when analyzing something.Boring lectures and subject material too. after the final when I didnt show for the last pointless session (which was after my group presented), my class grade was docked a whole 2 letter grades. BS
Professor Sorkin is very passionate about her teachings, as she said herself, she would not be lecturing if the information was not important. Attendance is not mandatory however going to lecture was very useful when writing my essays & doing my group project.
The class is fun and pretty easy. Four essays including a group project on a museum research. Lectures and readings are not necessarily mandatory but they are still worth attending/reading. Overall great experience(I'm really interested in museums so I have a lot of motivation for this class but regardless still worth your time)
