The class is super slowly paced and easy since it's prep for the first gen chem, and mercy is super personable and teaches very clearly. There wasn't a single time I felt behind, so as long as you go to lectures it's a free A. She's funny too so lecture isn't all that unpleasant.
Definitely wants students to succeed, the class was great preparation for chem 1a, one of the most organized professors I've had so far.
The way she taught and organized her slides were SO thorough and easy to understand. She does not put any concepts on tests that she has not gone over or were not in the recommended book problems/section worksheets. As long as you pay attention AND do the book problems, you will do amazing!! She is hilarious, funny, genuine, caring!!
Class is fast-paced, so I feel as though I grasped the material better outside of class by going over the notes. I appreciate that she does a good amount of practice problems. She has her silly moments too. You will have to put a lot of time outside of the lecture to understand the material.
Definitely recommend this class for people who don't have much previous chem knowledge. I learned a lot from the course and don't regret taking it. Mercy can seem a little intimidating and present concepts in a basic yet overwhelming way but if you do the textbook problems at the end of each chapter (notably the cumulative ones) you will be fine.
Somewhat enjoyed lectures because she's funny and sweet, however the way she broke down topics didn't click for me as I didn't take chem in high school. Very straightforward on expectations and preparing you for Chem 1A. However I didn't find asking for help very useful, when i didn't get a problem she only told me which concepts I need to review.
She was great for intro to chem. Does a good job at explaining chem and setting you up for 1A and how that class runs. She is good at helping you understand topics you need help with. very funny and sweet. def recommend if you know nothing or very little about chem.
Prof can come off harsh, but she is hilarious and genuinely wants her students to succeed. This class is definitely challenging if you don't have much experience in chem. You really need to attend every lecture and section, and go to office hours (can't stress that enough). Highly recommend textbook problems before every exam. Good prep for 1A!
She really does care for you and wants you to learn. There are 3 quizzes and 3 midterms plus the final, make sure to attend lectures (iclickers) and book problems and aleks. Course is honestly easy, just need to review consistently for the tests (and some self-teaching). She is very clear about her grading and expectations, and sets them high!
class was SO hard. i put in hours everyday to do good in this class including going to office hours and talking to my TA and i just couldn't get it. coming from someone who got a 103% in chem in high school it's very humbling to be in this class. the lectures were so fast and everything was just so difficult. 9 weeks is too short for chem. unreal.
I loved taking this intro chem class with her. Very dedicated to ensure we all understood what was expected of us in her course, how to get help, and what to expect in the courses after CHEM-25. Had a lot of personality that made lectures tolerable & she seemed to enjoy her job. Very manageable course if you put in the work. 10/10 experience.
Her lectures are very informative, she has an accent but it never hindered my success. We had homework due every Sunday 3 tests 3 quizzes and a final. The tests and quizzes are not the worst just make sure to study! USE OFFICE HOURS! If you are not confident in your chemistry skills TAKE THIS CLASS since it will prepare you for chem1A! good luck!!!
Great Professor for CHEM 25. Cared a lot about her students and genuinely wanted to help students learn chem. Highly recommend!
She's the sweetest and genuinely cares about her students, I would 100% take her again. I hate chem and it's a hard course but she's a fun professor to take it with. her grading is fair and doing good in homework helps ur grade. it's chem which sucks no matter the professor but she makes it okay, just be prepared to study at least 2 hours a day.
I enjoyed taking this class, definitely recommend for those who want to have a strong foundation in chemistry! Midterms and final were very fair. All the problems found on tests were variations of the practice problems in the textbook (she posted scans of these w/answers too). I also liked how she posted the answers to midterms so we could correct.
I loved Mercy! Structured her class in a way that we could undertand the difficulties of chemistry. Midterms are worth more than anything else in her class. Make sure to do the aleks, also worth a lot. But overall a good class, in prep for Chem 1A. She's so fun and charistmatic.
Prof was great at explaining simple concepts and creating a positive environment for ppl new to chem, but I felt she never spent enough time on the harder ones/stuff that actually appeared on tests. Midterms (3) and final heavy with mandatory sections, but those really helped anyway. Definitely great prep for 1A, tests structured just like theirs.
As the lowest level class, Mercy was great at explaining the basics of chem by using analogies. She was willing to provide help outside of class with office hours, and her jokes made the class enjoyable. She always came in with a happy attitude. Glad I took this class because it prepared me a lot for 1A.
Prof. Anyika was encouraging & supportive with a great attitude, but wasn't the best at explaining the harder concepts appearing on exams. Most of that came from the ALEKS hw and mandatory sections (with a great TA, thank you Priscilla!). Class has 3 midterms, 3 quizzes, & a final. Would rec as a refresher/intro to college chem before taking 1A.
She is a good professor, but the lectures were sometimes confusing; she gave examples for easy questions (one example per question) but went over them too fast for challenging questions. The tests are not too bad, and the Aleks homework is probably the most difficult part of this class. My TA was the GOAT and explained concepts better.
Professor Anyika was a great professor, however, sometimes her lectures and explanations can be confusing. if you go to office hours, ask questions, and do book problems you can pass with a good grade. Most tests have a couple questions from the book so it's good to practice those.
she's super funny but definitely not a good teacher. got confused when teaching her own material and had zero sympathy for students who were struggling. if you need to actually learn in her class or don't have full confidence in teaching yourself the material, don't take
Everyone makes her out to be way worse than she is; it's the class itself that's difficult for some. I found her lectures to be clear for the most part, and I understood the material she was teaching. You'll be fine, she doesn't bite.
She is very funny but her lectures were sometimes confusing. Aleks was a pain in the beginning and end, the middle was okay. As long as you do what she says you'll be alright but her tests were infuriating since it would sometimes have material we didn't do in class. You'll basically teach yourself.
