No Powerpoint, lectures off the top of his head. Can be extremely boring but take notes cuz test material comes more from lecture than from the book. He is very straightforward and wants everyone to succeed. Sheer memorization except for the two 2pg. papers. Stay awake & take notes and you'll get a good grade.
Great professor! It's always refreshing to study from someone who: 1)knows what he is talking about backwards and forwards, 2)Is interesting, 3)is always avaiable to help out outside of class. If you show any dedication to his material at all, he will bend over backwards to help you do your very best in his classes. Best professor in Classics!
Outstanding Professor. I have taken a class from this guy almost every quarter that I was at UCSB. No plastic powerpoint B.S., just an engaging lecture taught by a very knowlegeable prof. Interesting and challenging. Always available outside class. Take at least one class from Galllucci while your @ UCSB.
One of the best profs at SB. NO POWERPOINT, just interesting lectures. If you do the reading (and I do mean sparknotes, plus the reader) you will get a B or A. His tests are fair and everything is very straightforward. A great way to fulfill lit req and immerse yourself in interesting material. Also, the videos are funny and informative!
Professor Gallucci is a wonderful professor who really tries to engage the students and is very helpful. He is very knowledgeable and accessible in office hours. A thoroughly enjoyable class with great material- its an intro to all about heroes and myth from ancient greece. The reading is fun and entertaining and you will do well if you keep up!
He is a good teacher, he knows his stuff, and he is a really nice man too. He is more than willing to help...go to office hours! He just lectures (no notes on overhead), but is very good at it...pay attention and you will learn what you need to know and get a lot out of the class.
Gallucci is one of the most helpful professors I have encountered so far. His lecture style is awesome (NO powerpoint; he has every single aspect of his subject memorized). To some his lecture style is boring because they are used to visual aid. Take this class if you enjoy a class in which the requirements are made clear and the material is easy.
Well, poor gallucci, he is sort of boring. He told one joke all year, but no one laughed because no one expected it. I think that its a class worth taking, he knows his stuff and is a really nice guy. However, he is just sort of dry.
His lectures are unorganized, he relies on films, and his voice expresses no passion for this field of study. It was difficult to find the will to go to class each morning. Do yourself a favor and wait for Athanassakis.
This was the easiest class that I've ever taken in college. In fact, it was so easy that I even got an A+. I took "Ancient Epic" before taking "Greek Mythology" and the tests were almost identical. If you do the reading (even just spark notes) and go to lecture you can easily get an A.
Gallucci is very willing to help and if you go to his office hours he will do a lot to help you out in the class.
He was a cool prof and lecture wasn't too bad. Some days were better than others, but he gave MC tests for the midterm and final, and the study guides for thoses helped a lot. Essays are very doable too. I recommend Galluci.
Boring class. I failed the midterm and barely passed the final, but he let me write an essay for extra credit to get a Pass.
As easy as a UC can get. Boring lectures, but a nice guy nonetheless
really great guy and likes to talk with students. acts as a mentor and makes ajustments to fit students best interests. notes from class fit tests well and set students up for success. great teacher!
if u actually do the work one of the easist classes to take
passionate about his work, but can be unclear at times.
didn't go to a single class and still got an A+, gallucci the goat fr
Class had multiple choice midterm and finals, a short midterm paper, and a long final paper. Never read anything until the essays and skimmed through the texts while writing my essay and got high grades. I could have taken this class in 6th grade. Gallucci is the GOAT.
SO FIRE Gallucci was literally the GOAT. He's retiring at the end of this school year, but for anyone looking to take one of his courses in spring quarter, totally do it! I had him for Ancient Greeks online and it was super chill, it's definitely doable to really well on the midterm, final, and both essays for SURE
I have taken Gallucci throughout my four years here (Class 40, Class 20A, Class 50, Class 55). He is an absolute legend. Lectures are not mandatory in order to receive at least an A. Minimal work (a few papers) and midterm/final open note. If you ever get the chance to take his classes, do yourself a favor and DO IT!!!
